Holz

was just doing some analysis of NN in the nab with his time on ground for SC numbers

NN
DNP
101 from 74%
96 from 66%

96 from 66% game time is wow.

However I went back last season to see what his average TOG was and im seeing alot of 60s and 70s. His points per minute is off the chart. I didnt know players could have a TOG soo low every week, he must sit on the bench alot.

can anyone shed some light on this?

with the cap if he plays more minutes then there is big scope for him to massively bost his average. We have seen he can go 110 when healthy in under 70% time on ground. If he is forced to go up to 85% by resting in the forward if he kicks an odd goal, or rack up 2-3 kicks he could easily go +10

Or will the lack of rest reduce his explosiveness?

RaisyDaisy

In previous years, he does spend a bit of time of the bench

Usually makes his way to the bench and can spend 5 minutes or so at a time there, but with the reduced cap it's expected that instead of resting on the bench as much as he has, he will now have to rest forward

I'm not sure he has the tank to maintain such high levels of productivity for 90%+ TOG, but I would expect to see him in the 80% range

Good analysis Holz,

I was watching NIcNat on Sunday and he just looked to be killing it, was in the ruck for most of the 1st quarter, Lycett was forward and I thought NicNat was looking at a huge score, but didn't watch the whole game, so had no idea of TOG, but very good point you make, if NicNat can spend more TOG, then could take it to the next level.

With my rucks I'm not interested in trying to pick a ruck that might represent better value, just want the 2 best rucks, like any other line.

I have Goldy locked and I'm liking the look of NicNat and Gawn for R2.

In short, Holz, if cash was irrelevant, who do you think are the 2 best rucks to play the whole season (mumford is excluded, will get injured and cost a trade).

Raisy, your west coast supporter, do you like NicNat as top 2 rucks, and also do you rate Scott Lycett, can he score well without Callum Sinclair, I heard Lycett had OP last year, if fully fit represents very good value, potential R2 or more likely for me, forward line swingman.

I've had Goldy and NN locked since the day SC opened, so take that as you will :)

Wouldn't look at Lycett as an option for SC

Holz - NN's ownership is only at 13%, so please remove this thread to keep it that way :P

Yeah I like that combination RD.

Last year I picked max gawn when he was on the bubble, under $400k.  There is a lot of max gawn hype atm, but the question is, can he outscore nicnat over the course of the season.  I was happy to punt on gawn at last years price, but at $550k he is the same as NN, so I also like the Goldy NicNat combo.

sammy123

i had natanui but i think gawn will score the same or mor

PiPies

Hoping the second full pre-season in a row for NN has increased his tank a little. Like Holz said if he can rest forward and snag a mark/goal or two while there increasing his TOG in the process there is scope for improvement.  Locked in at R2 for me in the hope he can improve his output to 110+

Got Gawn last year to finally rid myself of the TBC disaster and he was great. Read that he said he wants to challenge Goldy for the best ruck in the comp which is great, just not sure he can manage it this year. Improved his tank over the pre-season which will help. Love watching him play but I'll be passing on him this year.

r R2.

It would be Martin or NN.

NN has by far the most potential.

NN I can see going 100-120

Martin should go 107-110

Gawn  100-110 he can't challenge Goldy for the ruck

I have Goldy NN

shaker

Yes NN spends a fair bit of time off the ground and think that will continue , have had him last 2 years but just yesterday have replaced him with Martin purely because Martin gets so many possies , 25 again NAB 3 in the wet but both good picks

Ringo

Having the same NN v Martin decision.

Martin will have first year as sole ruck at Brisbane and will be spending 90%+ TOG so should at least maintain last years 110 average if not increase to 115,

NN as has been said may have less time on ground but can see him spending more time on Ground and also increasing his SC to around 110.

It really depends though how you use the extra cash generated  as my dilemna is Priddis+ Martin v Nat and Danger as the example.

eaglesman

For me it's NN vs Gawn for R2.
I wish so bad we could pick 3 rucks or that NN was forward eligible haha.

NN TOG history could be somewhat influenced by the fact he hasn't ever completed a full preseason and thus he has been managed to get through the year. This is his first full uninterrupted preseason and could be set for an unbelievable explosion.

Is he worth the extra 10k over Gawn - probably - how badly do I need 10k :)

its a serious question mark on NN.

you could see this as an opportunity for him to get more points by more time on ground.

or there is potential downside if NN is unable to physically to do it and risk injury or the other rucks eating into his scoring.

LordSneeze

Some of the coaches have come out and said they expect players to play about the same to less TOG as rests on the bench and sints on the ground will just be longer.
I think people are overstating the effect it will have.
