To start or not to start with him?? Seems likely to play round 2 or 3. Is it better to start with him and possibly use his loophole or use a trade on him when selected.

If he misses the first couple and plays round 3 I don't mind holding him... Although am worried about being stuck with him if he doesn't play and miss out on $$ from another playing rookie??

What are everyone's plans with him??

I'm going to see what rookies are named where before I decide. I have had him at various points as my mid bench DPP option, I have had Kerridge at mid 8, I have replaced him with Menadue, swapped him to Davis etc. Basically with my team the way it stands, I need 4 rookies in the forward line and 4 in the midfield.

Basically if Mills, Gresham, Marcon and Davis all get named round 1 I might avoid him, if one of Marcon, Davis or Gresham doesn't get named I will probably start Petracca there instead.

Has he played footy at any level yet? He's not going to walk into the side when he's injury free, he will have to play some VFL to get match fittness surely? So unless he's ready for the seniors in the first 3-4 rounds then he's not worth starting because he will be a good downgrade option

This is a little confusing because it sounds like Stevo says he plays a practice match whilst rd1 is going on, but than Freako says he could play rd1. I think Freako misunderstood - surely Petraca just doesn't walk straight in without a proper run first

Yep, pretty sure Petracca would be Round 2 at the very earliest.

I can remember the exa t same theory on a kid last last year. Can't remember who it was though. But they didn't make there debut till late in the season. I had a few mates who picked them and held on all year because they couldn't justify a trade.
That's what I'm worried about with Petracca works rather hold and pick him up at round 6 after a couple of games and another rookie makes me 100k

Don't get me wrong, Petracca appeals to me simply because there is flower all cheap mid rookies available and I'm sure he will play sooner rather than later

Agree with this.
It's alright saying that Davis may miss out instead, but at this stage, I'll need them both with such slim pickings in the Mids.
All going well, I'd back Petracca in for a Round 3 return, which I am more than happy to wait for rather than picking a questionable rookie.

I don't think you'd bother trading him in if that was all you'd Madeira Davis. But on the other hand what if you have Petracca sitting on your bench, players are going up in price and Petracca does an injury again in the VFL or doesn't find form and keeps playing there?

Fair comment, but most people seem to use a floating donut at R3 so it's the same thing really

Grimley comes in at R3, and now M11 becomes the donut with added DPP

There are plenty of mid rookies that are locked to play round 1. Just gotta pay up for them
Mills, Oliver, Parish, B.Kennedy, Macaffer, Menadue, Gresham, Kerridge

If the rookie situation is bad come rd1, I'll probably pick one of Petracca or Polkinghorne, which ever one looks like playing the earliest will be picked.
