Okay so I'm being stupidly lazy here but has anyone already done the numbers on teams with the most Sunday/Monday games?

Wondering whether I sacrifice a rookie position and go with the floating doughnut for permenant loopholing ability.

I did not use a floating donut last year as invariably one of my players was not playing so worked OK. Dees and Suns have the most later games if looking for the floating loophole.  Maybe others but have not done the full analysis.

M.King at R3 with Grimley at F8 seems the best choice

Pies also have 11 Saturday/Sunday Monday Games.  So Cox and grimley could also be a nice choice. Couple of options available

St Kilda or Carlton are the best options for a floating donut.

Carlton and St Kilda have 10 Sun/Mon games
Essendon, Melbourne and West Coast have 9 Sun/Mon games
Brisbane have 8 Sun/Mon games
Geelong, GWS and Western Bulldogs have 7 Sun/Mon games
Collingwood, Fremantle and Port Adelaide have 6 Sun/Mon games
Adelaide, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Richmond and Sydney have just 4 Sun/Mon games

If adding in the Sat night with Sun/Mon

Western Bulldogs have 15 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
St Kilda have 14 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
Adelaide and Carlton have 13 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
Brisbane and Fremantle have 12 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
Essendon, Geelong, Melbourne, Port Adelaide. Collingwood and West Coast have 11 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
Gold Coast have 10 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
GWS, North Melbourne, Richmond and Sydney have 9 Sat night/Sun/Mon games
Hawthorn with just 4 Sat night/Sun/Mon games

on top of this it'd be interesting to know how often teams play the first game of the round. Because if some teams never start the round off, then you'll definitely have a loophole player.

Whilst it's all well and good looking at how late teams play, overall it's not completely necessary. What you want to be able to do with a loophole player, is loophole them, you don't need your player to be playing Sunday twilight every game, all you need is for them to not play early in the weekend, for most of the weekends.

There's a few noted you want to be aware of first:

  • You want to loophole each round, whether it be for captaincy or just to pick the best rookie
  • By the last few rounds likely you will have another player to use, so the last few rounds may not be needed here (They have been used in what I am saying below)
  • Bye rounds are excluded as you will have plenty of options already
  • The best team to loophole may not have the appropriate player for your side

I went through every round and recorded the first 3 games and the last 3 games (Where start times are the same I picked both). The first thing I did was cross off the teams that at some stage played the first game of the round. No team after Round 10 played their first first game of the round (Read that carefully). Which is kinda good as it means we don't cross off a team whose only first game is in the last 3 weeks where we may have another player to use anyway.

Of the teams remaining I then looked at how often their team played the 2nd/3rd games or one of the last 3 of the week (I take into account that the 2nd and 3rd games often overlap, for the end of the week games I haven't worried about this). From there we can tell which teams we should be using to loophole with. We also need to consider personal cases when it comes to this. For example if the only times my player's team plays the 2nd or 3rd game of the week is when Goldstein plays the first, if I plan to have Goldstein and plan to use him as a captain, then it's not as big an issue as if the only times were when Essendon played first and I have no one from there worth using. (Again, depends if using captain or rookie or both loophole here).

So after that I have come up with the following for the teams we should consider taking a loophole player from:

Brisbane
Only 3 early games, in Round 10,11,12. In the first two cases North Melbourne play before them, in the 3rd it's Essendon vs Hawthorn.

St. Kilda
4 times they play in the first 3, one of those Round 22. The other three you have Port/Ess, WC/Rich, NM/WB to choose from. Big thumbs up here. Lots of late matches around the byes too.

GWS
Only 3 early games, one in Rd 19 the other two Rd 1 and Rd 16 (Where we get two games to choose from Port/Haw and Geel/Syd). Really like this one.

Melbourne
6 times early, 9 times late. Of those 6 two are Rd 1 and 2, one is Rd 20 (Rich/Coll to choose from again). The other 3 Goldstein plays game 1). Would only pick from here if you have Goldstein and are content with not having great options in the first wo weeks.

That is the 4 I like. Carlton after Round 1 have 4 early, 9 late, so again if you are willing to be patient through Rd 1 then pick a Blue.

Really really good stuff PB. Super solid job.

Thoughts on Wyatt? Up to the byes he has 6 Sunday's/Monday's and 2 Saturday nights. However the other 4 are Friday night games or early Saturday with Richmond, Hawthorn and Sydney playing on Friday.

Pretty strictly looking R/F's so only options are M. King x2 (And I guess Trent West and  McKay) from PB's eval

Of the $102k R/F options Loersch (Gold Coast) is my favourite. Add in the 117k guys then either King would overtake him. Don't like Wyatt purely because I want to loophole every single week.

Here's a question though, if as a player you pick two set and forget rucks, have no intention of owning Tippett or another R/F in your Forwards, is it worth risking your R3 on say Matthew Flynn (GWS, $117k), Archie Smith (BL, $117k) or Lewis Pearce (St. K, $123k) as they are better options for loopholes but dont have DPP?

I think I will be deciding my loophole player after Thursday's game, coz if a player like Broad or Menadue do really well (Will 'E' both if named) then I will obviously want to start them (But only one), and that decides my loophole player (Will definitely pick a DPP player in this case). My current side has almost $300k in the bank and not wanting to touch it too much it means Trent West might be an option, but I'm worried he might actually play :P

Loersch can't be loopholed with Gaz so I think that rules him out for me. And I think SMart and Max Gawn have shown that having a R/F DPP as R3 is kind of huge because you never know which random guy pops up

Trent West at 190k odd would be a luxury option at the moment and if everything else lines up then I'll put him there which saves having to put Grimley at F7/8... But that's like 70k down the drain
