My uncle reckons this is the end for him

Hopefully not though, even if he just sits in the forward pocket he could still kick 60 goals I reckon

My shoulder is a bit sore too - could you ask your uncle how my future is looking? 8)

Hopefully the little master comes back stronger and better!

I reckon you'll find Gaz has it a tiny bit worse than 'a bit of a sore shoulder'  ;)

Anyway, only Gaz's surgeon will know for sure, will just have to see how it plays out from here

Ugh damn thought there was an Ablett timepiece for sale.

On a serious note, after having three shoulder recons I do worry about his future as a fantasy pig. The best of Gazz has been and gone now because of the shoulder. The shoulder is the most complicated joint we have. Looking at Abletts tackle on Robbo and the mechanics of it (the range of motion the shoulder went through) and the loads which weren't large for a healthy shoulder but enough for a reconstructed one to cause issues.

Watching it it's clear as day for me why he hurt himself again, that tackle in it's form would of hurt me or worse like Gazz.
Tendons are attached again using what they call anchors and it's not overly difficult particularly playing footy to detach those anchors.
Iv'e done that just trying to do my job, no way in hell I could play footy to any level, a good bump in the right spot and i'd be walking off as Gazz did let alone bringing tackling into it. Anytime the arm is raised around chest height with the elbow well away from the body you are in the danger zone, at these moments you are at the greatest risk of re-injuring the shoulder, extremely vulnerable.

I think he'll play again but if it goes again he may think bugger it i'm wealthy enough it's not worth it. For me it was 3 months of rehab each time which is worse than 1) injuring the shoulder needing a recon and 2) the operation to fix it.

How athletes get back sooner simply amazes me to be honest because it's a tough road back each time believe me, alot of pain, the first 6 weeks are a nightmare. Depending on the initial damage some are just never the same. Do it bad enough it will trouble you for life. I haven't had a day in ten years where there hasn't been some degree of pain ranging from severe to bearable in my right shoulder. My life is impacted by it every day. You wouldn't wish it on your enemy believe me and I hope his surgeons include those words in their advice when they give it lol.

So how I see it for Gazz now is:
His tackling ability is going to be severely restricted, personally and possibly medically. He won't have any confidence in the shoulder and medically may simply be not capable of tackling a certain way. He'll have to adjust his tackling to compensate nothing surer than that.

Receiving a bump or a hard tackle will be issues for him, they always sting if they get you right or worse bang goes an anchor.
We've all seen him reluctant to expose himself to certain situations already, his confidence would of grown slowly but then bang you over do it and the mechanics of the situation are right and you're flowered. Confidence shot and the reality of where your at hit's home.

Even his overhead marking in a contest will be an issue for him, just a chopping of the arms can do you in here if it doesn't it will hurt everytime. Saw it with Carey he was reluctant to fully extend his arms in a marking contest after his shoulder/shoulders were flowered.

So with all that and more in mind he has to come out of the midfield and play the majority of footy up forward. Maybe some time around the ball but I suspect severely limited. Playing a small forward will be enough for him to contend with, still get tackled, still have to tackle, take marks sometimes contested.

It's a shame this will see him become far less than what we as fantasy coaches have witnessed over the journey, he was a beast for us aswell as who he was playing for. Argueably the best player ever.
Think he could still be a very damaging small fwd who could score well enough to warrant picking in fantasy but the pig days I feel are gone now. Iv'e seen enough of him since the injury and now this to be fairly confident in saying that as much as dislike saying it because he's been a a brilliant player and fantasy gun you could always rely on and lock in just about every week as Captain with little worry of getting a poor score from him. Watching him play as been just as good.

Yep. Bring in the constant hanners and he scores a season low. Sums up super coach this year.

Tbh he looked really sore and tired. A little concerned but hopefully will bounce back.

I rolled the dice and went Wines to Hanners two weeks ago. I was glad to see the back of Ollie but Hanners looked pathetic last night. Slow, sore, missed two gettable goals.. Very disappointed two weeks in, but at the same stage it's not like we're loosing anything on the top coaches as everyone has him now.. Would have been a nice POD to not have him..

See I'm on the other side mate. I've had my shoulder done too, anchors put in, don't have any pain and still play. I don't even strap it any more.

I guess at the end of the day it comes down to the surgery, and how bad the injury was. But in my opinion the surgery/recovery didn't go that well for GAJ and there's definitely still hope of fixing it. If they do then we'll see GAJ back to close to his best.

That's good to hear Rico, glad it worked out well for you mate. You're right there's alot that affects the outcome for sure. There are many stories I know of where good successes such as your experience occured.
I wish I was one of them lol. There's so much I'd love to still be able to do.
