You just have to back in the little master

Just like last year and look how that turned out...twice...

(Twice referring to the start of the season and then again when he returned)

Have backed him in for the last 8 years. Look how that turned out, 7 times.

7 times refers to a year where he has averaged over 127.

Could start with Stanton instead. ..... ......oh......  ;D

For me the logic is simple.    If playing he will make 125+ worst case if injured I will trade him out for Danger or Sloane or Ward.
He is starting.

BTW am I crazy for not starting Danger.   Great footballer but is he a SC certainty for 120+?

I don't think so. But I think I'm a minority on here in thinking that and am happy to be proven wrong

nobody is a certainty to go 120+

I would say Fyfe or him are the most likely though.

Is there any particular reason why you dont think he can repeat last year?
I remember reading an article about how premo mids always seem to have an equal or better supercoach year when they change clubs.

A few reasons and mainly gut. Players almost never back up elite years. It takes too much to go right for an elite year. Injuries, preseasons, form, other team mates, opposition, team success etc all have to go right. Only a select few can back it up like GAJ, Pendles, Fyfe.
Then add that he's leaving Sam Jacobs. Zac Smith has looked ok this preseason but he's no Jacobs yet
Then add where he slots in next to Jelwood. Yes he had Sloane but Sloane was a different player to Jelwood, and Joel has been #1 at Geelong for so long.
Then add new team, new team mates, new roles, etc.

I'd just rather see how he goes first, and wouldn't be surprised if he drops a little. But like i said, happy to be proven wrong because i really like him as a player

Though I tend to agree that a lot has to go right in an elite season i think he's in a better situation for most of those points.
He's had a strong preseason and seems to be in top form. Even wants to play in nab 3...
Geelong have a really good draw this season so that's another tick.
Will be interesting to see how he and selwood play together but I think it makes sense that the tagging split benefits them.
Smith is an obvious downgrade though.

Again, you make good points but so far everything seems to be looking good.

Firstly, you count 2013 (9 point drop in average) and 2014 (missed 7 games) as successes?

Second, I'm not talking smack about a fit, 25-year old Ablett. I'm talking smack about an unfit, 32-year-old Ablett.

2013 was a huge huge sucess. The man averaged 129 from 21 games giving me a massive 2700 points for the year. At the uber uber premo level a.k.a Gary Ablett Level you pay those high prices even with a price drop.

Im paying up for goldy even though i expect 117-120.

2014 If you said with a crystal ball would you pick him again then yes, yes i would.

For the record I had Ablett both years and did alright.

120 is to high of an expectation, each year a select few reach that height, but 110-115 is a fair assumption, mark my words he will be Geelongs number 1 SC scorer overall and most likely in average as well.

Now what is going on with Gaz's shoulder heard some say he was playing like he did after he came back from the injury , not going in any truth ? any info from you guys up there ?

Gandalf123

he did look like he was carrying it a bit this week but played out the whole match and haven't heard anything since so think he should be all good.

Ringo

I think Gazz is still wary of shoulder - An observation from the game he does not get in and under as much as he used to mainly standing just of waiting to receive the ball. Still scoring reasonably well but not the permanent captain he used to be.  In saying that with the way my SC is going will probably smash out 150 this week against North.

RaisyDaisy

BUMP!

Is anyone considering trading GAJ?

His first 3 weeks were good (When GC won) but since then he has gone 109, 100, 102, 82, 99 and now possibly out this week with concussion

If he misses this week, he comes back the week after with a run of Sydney, West Coast, Richmond, BYE, Hawthorn

Seriously considering doing my first sideways trade of the year and dumping him
