Go Pies 05 wanting advice

After finishing in the top 60 odd overall last year wanting to back it up, my initial team as follows:
Backs
Laird, Yeo, B Smith, M Dea, O McDonald, M Brown (Ess) \ Brown (WCE) K Collins
Mids
Ablett, Priddis, Sidey, Rocky, Liba, JOM, B Crouch, Simpkin Mills, Freeman Keays
Rucks
Martin, Lobbe King
Forwards
D Martin, Dahl, Barlow, Z Merrett, Wells, Kerridge B Kennedy S Grimley
$11.5k left
Any advice appreciated

Structure is sound. A lot of teams are batting deeper in mids but that is offset by your depth in Defence and Forwards.

With the depth of rookie options that appear to be surfacing maybe downgrade one and upgrade O'Mera to a mid prem as O'Meara is highly unlikely for Rd 1. Your choice though.

Rookies will change no doubt but not really a fan of McDonald in defence and can not see Keats starting for Brisbane.

Oscar Mac job security is low and there are better picks. JOM mightn't play rd 1.

Rest is ok. I think backs are weak but some people are using that strategy.

O'Meara to a playing rookie - Gresham, Menadue, Parish, Gore or MacPherson based on playing riound 1. Then Crouch who is being managed to a prem you can afford. Prem would depend on cash available but you should be able to get Wines or similar. Only did the maths in my head.

Just personal with McDonald but keep an eye on Tucker, Broad and Hartley and select which one plays.

Back - a little weak for me, Dea, McDonald i think you can get better value, Houli is expensive but looks really good down back for the tigers.

Mids - I'm not sure if it's just me but No Fyfe, Pendels, Danger, seriously? these guys win you games and push you to the top 100 early. JOM i don't think is a wise choice.

Rucks - Okay.... the fact you don't have (see above) you should at least have GOLDY IMO.

FWD - Looks good.

Overall there are some risky picks in this team, it could go great or really bomb out, not enough consistency from alot of these players

I'm concerned about smith, seedsman and laird to take points away from him down back. Maybe he plays on a wing and dominates. Then there's smith in the ruck. You need to upgrade him. I like the downgrade merrett option as mentioned below. Good luck

Definitely a unique team. You have the knowledge and experience to understand the risks associated with mid pricers etc. Go with your gut. IMO the weak ruck line is a big risk and needs to be addressed. Would upgrade smith to a mummie, sauce, nicnat or stef. I see it gives the ability to get deeper fwds and backs , and good luck with it.

Most of us seem have dropped back from 5 superprem to 4. Dropping Fyfe out is unique. For me bigger questions over Pendles role so he is one I have left out. Could also make a good argument to leave out GAZ. Especially if he goes done in rd 1 or 2.
