I remember everyone saying after Menzel had that amazing game where he scored 119 in his first game back that he was a lock if fit next year.

he did only go 19 and get subbed off in the 3rd quarter the game after.

but with the geelong mids looking much stronger, he should get good delivery.

Priced at 260k and the news below

GEELONG'S Daniel Menzel is in line to play in the opening round of the NAB Challenge after putting together an excellent pre-season following his late-season comeback in 2015.

Such has been his progress over summer, there is no reason why Menzel would miss out on playing his first pre-season game since 2011. The only consideration is the best way to prepare him for the upcoming season.

If he was rookie priced we'd all be on, even at sub-200k he'd probably be a lock. 260k is a touch too much for me, especially with Wells and Simpkin seemingly more reliable and possibly better value.

Gigantor

I think he was a lock when everyone thought he was going to be priced under 200k

At 260k its starting to get into that awkward range.

If Wells wan't available I would seriously consider him but unless Simpkin starts looking like a dud pick and I can find the extra 40k I'll pass.

Grufflez

Problem is his base fitness, he has missed so much preseason/fitness work over the years.
He was reportedly knackered after that 5 goal haul so not surprised he fell away the week after, we need him,but i think he is going to need a couple of strong preseasons to catch up to where the other guys are, Nab will be an interesting watch.
Probably need a more ''clued in'' Geelong man to be able to estimate how many games he might play this year, sorry.

one of the first picked in my team this year

My take on Menzel is that they wouldn't risk him in NAB games unless he was fully fit and had a great pre-season.

I'm keeping a close eye on him. On the Watchlist but not in my side at this stage.

quinny88

Seems a lot of money for someone that's played 2 games in 4 years.
If he was under 200k I'd strongly consider but theres better options in his price bracket

RaisyDaisy

Could rip out the occasional big game, but can't see him averaging more than 60-70

Would rather just start someone half the price for similar output

Holz

im not picking him by the way just seems to be one of those guys everyone was on then disapeared. kind of like craig bird (who is my f4)

It seems there are heaps of players over priced this year who dient play a game last year

HotTiges

Tough call..guy's a gun but is Wells better value?

Tylo

Imo will be very up and down but absolute certainty to average 75+, wouldn't be surprised if he pushed 90. Real question is can he string together enough games. Some guys just don't have bodies that can handle the high workload of afl footy.

fanTCfool

If he puts up a few good scores and is named for Round 1, I think I'll just pick him really.
Backing the cats in for a pretty good start to the year, other than the Hawks they'd want to be winning pretty much all of their first few games, which can hopefully result in points and momentum all round.
