Hi All,

Good luck in the upcoming year, hope it produces a FF overall winner!

Appreciate a look and comment on my team, realise I may be light in the mids. With Bird I really think he can average 90 and become at worst a handy M/F swingman.

Rance, Simpson, Bartel, Birchall, Smith, Brown (Brown, Hartley)
Abblett, Sloane, Rockliff, Libba, Crouch, Hopper, Gresham, Kerridge (Gore, Petracca, Cuningham)
Goldy, Nicnac (King)
Dahl, Barlow, Tippett, Bird, Wells, Simpkin (Kommer, Pickett)

I think you've gone too light on in the midfield. I would consider having one less keeper in defence and downgrading Simpkin to a cheaper rookie to make enough cash to bring in a mid premium. Either Fyfe, Danger or Pendles would be my pick.

Would also try to get Dusty in to your forward line at the expense of Tippett who wont be a top 4 ruck or top 12 forward.

The rest looks good.

I agree with Ben, way to expensive down back. Maybe look at 3 premiums and a mid price option or just 3 premiums. If you can get one of Fyfe/Pendles in that would be  a good start, maybe look at either upgrading or downgrading Bird as well. I think an 80-85 average is sort of what to expect from him since I am a bit more conservative when it comes to scores from these guys and it's not enough to be a keeper while he costs mid 300k.

I am assuming you have Tippett for ruck cover but something to consider is he did all his damage last year while rucking and the number 1 focal point up forward. Buddy is back and Sinclair is in, I think he probably reverts back to his 80 average. If Grimley/Currie are available they will give you that 50-60 points in case of an injury while you don't have to suffer with Tippets roller coaster scores all season.

If you can do something like one of the premium defenders down to a rookie that frees up a nice chunk of change, from there you can bring Kerridge forward for Bird and turn Bird into Fyfe it will leave you with about 25k (that's if you use Birch who is cheaper then Rance/Simmo).

Cheers gents, very valid feedback, back to the drawing board.

For what it's worth, and having watched most Swans games over the years Bird scores very well when playing through the mids, he doesn't when given a lockdown half forward or midfield role. I am selecting him with the hope that he averages 90 + and becomes a solid and cheap keeper/swingman.

Tippett is an interesting one, I'm selecting him as back up for the rucks but also I think he's undervalued too and could become a forward keeper in his own right. Scored well when playing as the number 1 ruck last year, with Pyke gone I expect him to play 6-70% there and the remainder resting forward. Hope I am right if I end up going with him!

Samm79

Bit of shuffling and only cheap rooks, have dropped a keeper in defence but picked up a keeper mid in Parker and turned Tippett into Martin. A bit of research into Tippett turned me off, thanks  ;)It goes out the window if the bargain rooks don't come through but pretty happy with it for now. Would like Fyfe and/or Pendles in there but will see...

Rance, Bartel, Birchall, Smith, Brown, Brown, (Broad, Hartley)
Abblett, Sloane, Rockliff, Parker, Libba, Crouch, Kerridge,Petracca (Gore, Polkinghorn, Cuningham)
Goldy, Nicnac (Grimley)
Martin, Dahl, Barlow, Bird, Wells, Simpkin (Kommer, T-Mac)

I'm high on Parker this year so I like that pick.  I still think you might need one of Fyfe/Pendles, not sure how you want to free up the cash for the move. One of Sloane/Parker to Fyfe would be ideal but I definitely prefer this team.

#6
What a difference a few weeks makes...

Ranch, Laird, Bartel, Smith, Dea, Broad, (Adams, Hartley)
Abblett, Danger, Pendles, Sloane, Rockliff, Libba, Crouch, Mills (Medadue, Petracca, Davis)
Goldy, Nicnac (Grimley)
Barlow, Hall, Wells, Bennedy, Kerridge T-Mac (Brown, Kommer)

$49K left so have a little wiggle room, am relatively happy with it...

Samm79

Does anyone have any suggestions? Would love an opinion or two!

Samm79

After some advice on trades this week. Team is:

Rance, Laird, Bartel, Smith, Dea, Adams (O'Mac, Brown)
Abblett, Danger, Pendles, Sloane, Rockliff, Libba, Crouch, Mills (Medadue, Dunkley, Davis)
Goldy, Nicnac (Grimley)
Barlow, Hall, Wells, Bennedy, Kerridge Papley (McCarthy, T-Mac)

Travelling ok with a ranking around 3,600. No trades yet, happy with the rookies so it's more of a fine tune. Bartel is a minor concern but should come good, Barlow and Rocky are the ones on the block. Was thinking of going sideways to raise some cash and get better scoring or just a bit more sideways...

Option 1: Barlow/Rocky to Zaha/Zerrett raises the bank to $170K and should get a good stepping stone in Zaha for a short term gain and Zerrett should be a 90+ keeper. Zaha should rise by about $100K in 2-3 rounds which opens up either trading him to Fyfe/Priddis or keeping him if still firing. Burn two trades but replace questionable scorers in the short term, with inform players plus cash plus stepping stone appreciation.

Option 2: Barlow/Rocky to Zerrett and Blicav/Titchell/Ward. Burn two trades but replace questionable scorers in the short term, with inform players who should be keepers, no cash.

Option 3: Hold - ride it out

Many thanks in advance for any clarity on the situation! Cheers

Ringo

Nice team here Sam - If it was my team would ride it out for another week before trading may lose a bit of cash but you will get to see whether Barlow can turn it around and if Rocky is out perfect loophole for you with Lions playing a Sunday game.

Just a thought though is it worth going O'Mac to Hartley and making $38k to add to your cash for upgrades next week if holding this week.

Samm79

Thanks Ringo, I think that is the smart move, it's down to whether I want to roll the dice, and I love a little bit of a risky trade a little more than I should!!

Samm79

Hi all,

At a point where I am really unsure of my next move. Have avoided most of the carnage and now ranked 310th, so having a crack at the overall so feel I need to keep trading... $8,400 in the bank and 23 trades left. Team is:

Shaw, Rance, Laird, Bartel, Smith DBJ (Wagner, Hartley)
Danger, Ward, Ablett, Zaha, Pendles, Sloane, Libba, Mills (Menadue, Davis, Dunkley)
NN, Goldy (Grimley)
Hall, Wells, Barlow, Adams, Kerridge, Tippa (Brown, McCarthy)

On the block are Tippa and Adams most likely, Zaha and Libba are possibly there too, Menadue and Davis can go also but won't make a great deal with either... McCarthy and Mills are probably on the block next week.

Josh Smith seems a given downgrade, Petracca next week are two out the four targets.

If Mills gets to $352K and McCarthy $292K next week as predicted, Tippa to Smith this week and I get Petracca in next week I'll have about 1,070,000 to play with. The best two upgrades I think I can make from these two is Dusty this week, Rocky next week. This leaves me with the following team in a couple of weeks, 19 trades and $70K:

Shaw, Rance, Laird, Bartel, Smith DBJ (Wagner, Hartley)
Danger, Ward, Ablett, Zaha, Pendles, Sloane, Libba, Rocky (Smith, Davis, Dunkley)
NN, Goldy (Grimley)
Hall, Wells, Barlow, Dusty, Kerridge, Petracca (Brown, Menadue)

Not 100% sure how much I like this (not sold on Rocky) but I cannot think of a better way tokeep my team moving. Have plenty of cows still earning and only 4 spots to upgrade so trades for the moment aren't an issue...

My question is, and I know it's asking a lot but can you see a better option for me? Many thanks in advance :)

MC

Congrats mate on an excellent start to the year! Laird and Rance are going to hurt this week, and Laird's injury hopefully doesn't linger beyond the 2-3 they're suggesting... Can you afford a donut if one of your rookies gets dropped this week?  :-\

My suggestions for you really depend on how much of a risk you're willing to take!

You really need to beef up your forwards, which are comparitively weak compared to the rest of your squad.
Tippa to Smith (via Menadue) is the obvious trade, freeing up 207k to play with.

207k + McCarthy (for example) leaves 489k to spend, otherwise Adams out gets you 550-odd.

Forwards i'd consider in your price range:
Dustin Martin @ 505k (Safest)
JJK @ 474k
Montagna @ 555k (getting cheaper)

Or for a risk/reward:
Westhoff @ 407k (May benefit from Lobbe out)
Christensen @ 372k (May benefit from Rocky/Beams back)
Who have both started poorly but have a history of premium scores on their side.

Samm79

Thanks mate, sorry for the delayed reply and thank you for the detailed response.

Your options have given me something to ponder. If JJK was playing at Domain this week he would be very tempting....

The other one I saw was Gunston at $440K, the Hawks have a very good run coming up and the extra cash then should give me $620K to play with next week, trading Adams/McCarthy and Mills.

Probably between Dusty and Gunston now, thanks mate!!

Samm79

Current rank 360.

Team is

Shaw, Rance, Laird, Bartel, Smith, DBJ (Wagner, Hartley)
Danger, Ward, Ablett, Zaha, Pendles, Sloane, Libba, Mills (Smith, Davis, Dunkley)
NN, Goldy (Grimley)
Hall, Wells, Barlow, Gunston, Kerridge, Adams (Brown, Menadue)

Trading Mills/Adams to Petrecca and ?? Mills' spud score leaves me $2K short of Hanners. Leaves me to look towards a forward, Dahl ($569K) seems to be the best option but Zerrett ($477K) and Dusty ($514K) are arguably better value and the extra coin will be very handy... Leaning towards Dusty at this stage. Want Dahl, he may have a down week soon and get cheaper, well here's hoping!
