 :)

I'm punting on T McDonald learning from his form drop off last season and putting it all together this year and averaging somewhere around 95 to 105. So have him at D.1 and Shaw as an upgrade hopefully when the price is right.      :) ;) ::)

enzedder

Put simply the defence looks so weak without him I feel compelled to start him. He's priced like a midfielder and I'm confident he'll score like one. I don't buy the conspiracy theories that argue against him. Could easily average 105+

Understand what you lads are talking about in terms of there being 6 def spots and only 2 ruck spots, but the argument being raised was that Shaw won't maintain and drop in value and I was saying the same can happen to Goldy

Goldy can drop to 115 and lose 80K or so just like heater can drop to 100-105 and lose value but they're still both the best in their lines

Again I get what you're saying how Shaw is easier to add as opposed to Goldy needing to replace an existing prem and it being a waste, but at the end of the day starting Shaw is not a bad decision

It's all speculation at this point, some think he can't back it up and some do. Each to their own

He is not locked in my side fwiw. I'm hoping to start him, but if I need to downgrade him I will

I think Shaw is a lot more mature and an all round better and more team orientated player than he ever has been in the past. I'm expecting another really good season from him

Understand what you're saying, but by that same logic we shouldn't be starting Goldy or Fyfe too

I can't see how Goldy is completely assured to go 125+, but everyone picks him because 'he will be the best ruck' so why can't that same logic be applied to the guy who 'will be the best defender'?

Heaters history is impressive - much longer and proven then most

Cant pick certain parts and facts to push your point. Heater is just as good a pick then any other top liner. Just comes down to personal choice and structure

The reason we pick Goldy is he will probably play every game in a line with little or no cover and no good cheap or mid priced options.

1. In defence we dont need that type of player as i can find cheap guys who play 22 and we have 2 bench options both who will play.

2. Shaw didndt have it last year but he has suspension and injury risks attached to him so he isnt as big a lock to play 20+ as goldy is.

3. Shaw is on the wrong side of 30 its not a big deal but needs to be factored in.

4. Williams and Wilson improving and could take some ball away. nobody will take ruck away from goldy.

5. I still want him.

It's just so hard to justify a 600k defender. Should probably just fit him in considering how cheap the rest of my defenders are.

And, of course, there are the intangibles, the quirks of the game, that no amount of pre-planning can predict, or even deal with: on a rainy night in Sydney Shaw loses his footing and slides into a behind post fracturing his collar-bone: or, Goldy mis-times his leap at a centre-bounce, something he does a thousand or more times a year, yet this time he inexplicably comes down on a steeper angle and fractures his ankle in three places, yep, gone for the year (if not longer).  So, how many events or occurances, totally beyond our control, is it realistically possible or feasable to factor in as part of our decision-making process? An insurance broker could, theoretically, come back with a figure of maybe 5000 - 1, or once in every 250 games, something like that. But, really, such numbers are meaningless because they are so totally out of our control. In fact the only way to control them affecting us is, simply, to not play the game. That's why we try to factor them in as best we can.  And it's not only injuries that affect our selection process; for example, who on this planet could have predicted that the coach of an AFL team would be murdered in cold blood, at home, after a game, by his own drug-addled son.  If any of us could have predicted such an event, it just may have affected how many Crows players we were prepared to take on that year. And don't say it wouldn't have crossed your mind.  You know, they have guys in Las Vegas who frame markets for just this sort of thing, they'll give you odds on anything and everything.  I think one guy does it on ''when will the world come to an end.'' I don't know how his clients intend getting paid if they win.  8)  I guess there are a lot of guys, myself included, who say to themselves, "Well Shaw's slowing down, he's getting old", true, but he's also smarter, knows how to cut corners, yeah, you know, "sly like a fox.  The same for Goldy, the football is an extension of his being he'll put it on a dime nine times out of ten with his eyes shut, and you should see his party tricks!"  Anyway.
I've run out of beer.  So I'll leave you as you ponder the unthinkable ;).

I may well be the anti-Christ here and start a team WITHOUT Shaw, Fyfe, Goldy and Deledio.

Frame that markeet.

+1
BUT not I going for overall just win my leagues. Barring injuries still look like 14 to 15 keepers starting ... certainly hope that Shaw and Co have a good season BUT if they are a little slow out of the blocks then => worthy upgrade targets.
The extra dollars have spread in a great midfield and hope to gain better points overall.
It is a team game after all .... hahahaha ::) :D

Only have 1 of these atm.    Fyfe is life.     Goldy is probably the only one I want try to upgrade to at some stage.  Would like to but have martin and gawn/nicnat so unless injury arrives no upgrades.

I've restructured and gone Shaw, Boyd, Bartel, Weits, Rookies..

Those 3 premiums will be the defenderss to average over 100 IMO, just a matter of being able to afford Shaw at his price
