Flavour of the week. Last week it was Birchall, now it's Heater.
Pick the premiums you want without letting meaningless nab challenge games change your decision
I think we all WANT Heater, just don't WANT to pay the price. Then in this meaningless nab game he reminds us what he is capable of. Makes us rethink the decision to leave him out.

These Captain Obvious comments are getting old man!

Did you really need reminding from a guy that's averaged premium numbers for 10 years straight?
Package it up and sell it to yourself however you want, if he scored a 50 people would say "this is why I'm not picking him"
The day people get it through to themselves that premiums shouldn't be judged on how they perform in nab games (good or bad) is the day I'll stop making the comments ;)
Do you think we really need you to remind us it's only a nab game?
Fanfooty peeps don't need it.
I'm sick of reading it really. We are here talking footy because we enjoy it. Get that through to yourself.

I should clarify that it's not you personally that irritated me, I've read the same comments from others.
You can take the team you picked in February into Round 1 if you like, I'll keep adjusting mine.
Heater is one of a group of players I've been choosing from in defence. Good to see him out there.

Ricochet

Still not starting him. Expecting him to drop so I'll grab him a bit later.

Have you guys forgotten who you're talking about here, it's the AFL's answer to the human yo-yo.  One year up, the next year down, one year up, two years down, three years up, one year down etc etc etc ad nauseum.  I personally think he's long overdue to twang a hammy or two, or three...that's Heater...all this stuff comes with moving into his neighbourhood.

He will drop, that is an absolute certainty. Last year was one out of the box, 10 points above his usual average, that's even being kind. There is every chance in the world that Heath Shaw will drop below $500k, last year his 3 lowest scores came in the first 6 rounds. People shouldn't get carried away with the preseason comp, expect Shaw to be back around the 100 mark for the year.

I agree but I think more likely to be a 105 avg. I still have him at D1 though because I don't think anyone else will get near that.. Boyd and McVeigh the only other 2 that are likely but they have more question marks than Shaw.
If someone could give me one other viable option that will get within 5-10 points of Shaw to go along side Bartel and Simmo in my backline I'd be happy to listen

Keeper27

TBH I've had him in and out of my side and currently he's in.
He'll most likely finish as #1 in DEF. Plus I've gone cheaper in D2-D4 and need my D1 to go 100+

Rory Laird, he was unbelievably consistent last year after Jaensch went down, he can also play midfield. From round 6 onwards he notched up 7 tons with only 2 scores below 80. His finals campaign was just as impressive and his preseason form has been very good. I'm tipping 95-100 in 2016.

Fair enough, Haven't really strongly considered Laird. I just think even if he repeats last years efforts or does improve slightly to a 95 average he will still be 10 ppg off Shaw. Could be wrong though. I don't know a whole lot about him

Mat0369

The thing with guys like Laird is there are so many that come out and have a good year and then disappear back into obscurity with their scoring. I'm only taking a risk on one Adelaide back to start the season and that's Brodie Smith. The fact is that 2014 could be the only 90+ season that Smith has for the next 5, but he is also 100k cheaper then Laird so I'm not paying premium money for him.

ronl

You're a brave man, Mat. I'm steering well clear of the Adelaide backs this year, they smell like trouble.

Not worried about Laird, his disposal efficiency is top shelf and he he also gets midfield time. The thing with Brodie Smith is his standard deviation, it's much like a key position player, he's the type to lose you an important league match, this was even the case in his AA year. But back on Laird, 2 scores under 80 from round 5 onwards, no Jaensch to worry about, midfield time, precision kicking, excellent preseason, solid finals form - you have to weigh up the one year wonder factor with all the other evidence. It's not like he's been around for long to build up a foot soldier history, he's 22 and developing into a very good player.

100% agree. I think you can pick Laird with confidence he'll average around that 90+ mark required as a keeper in defence.
