Total lock at D1. Yes he is expensive, but his consistency last year was unmatched.

I hope for more of the same this year.

I think the tough part is that last year the top 8 defenders had averages of 95+. Top 16 were 90+. Only Shaw and Hodge went 100+.
So you could spend big on Shaw and get a big scoring defender - but someone who is unlikely to improve on their average.
Or you could spend the 600k on an elite midfielder with the chance to improve their average and still have money for a top defender.

It's all well and good to say he's the only defender who will go 100+ but you should think of the impact on your whole team. It's all about value for money.

On value for money dont forget to think about the extra value that mid 100-200k player is going to give you over the def 100-200k youll have by dropping Shaw for a mid 600k player. Yes, that money could potentially get you more in the mids, but you cant start all of them in the mids or you are missing out on all the cash generation. Shaw can provide great balance to a side, and every side will need him eventually. He is actually lower risk than most 600k midfielders as he pretty much a gurantee to be a top 3 scorer in his position.

I currently have Rance at D1, but j have the cash to turn him into Shaw.

Backline is: Rance, Houli, Bartel, Weitering, Brown, Hartley (Broad, Collins)

Thoughts - would/are you starting him??

FWIW I'm not starting him. Plan on him being my first or second upgrade though.

Zac is going to be a lose canon is a couple of years then

Heater's average will fall this year - by how much I don't know.  Opposition coaches will be developing strategies to curb his influence.  He's a good player, not a great player.  I think he'll come back to the pack this year.  Zac Williams could very well be the benefactor.

100% LOCK! I don't really care if he's going to drop in value, at the end of the day he's going to score points and that's all that matters to me. Plus it's harder this year to pick the top defenders so I want someone solid and consistent as my D1

Same. Decided this a while back with similar reasoning.

I've said all Pre-Season long that I'll only start one of heater or Lids

Heater the better pick due to Lids injury worry but still, 600K is a lot

Hmmmm
