Taking Birchall instead of Shaw saves money but it also gives away 20 points per week. Where else are you making up for that even with a better midfielder?

I wouldn't start Wines to begin with but I assume people that are expect at least 110 from him which only gives you 10 extra points getting a Fyfe or Pendles

I guess it depends what you think Shaw will avg as well. I think he'll go around 105, which still makes him the top defender, but would only be losing 10-15ppg from a Birchall type player. And with that 140k, can turn a Jacobs into a Goldstein. Basically depends on where you want to pick the elite players. For me, I have more confidence in guys like Goldy, Fyfe, Danger, Pendles holding their averages than I do with Shaw.

I like this guy because he absolutely destroys the theory of players scoring more purely because their team wins. He scored 127, 125, 144, 145 and 164 in teams that got absolutely slaughtered, some by 85+ points. His highest score came in an 89 point loss.

132.2: average in matches where GWS lost by 5+ goals
122.3: average in matches where GWS lost by any margin
101.9: average in matches where GWS won by any margin
104.3: average in matches where GWS won by 5+ goals

Shaw would have been the beneficiary from scaling a fair bit since his teammates wouldn't have eaten into the 3300 much. I wouldn't expect the Giants to be as shower this year so this probably won't occur too much. Shaw will drop back to the 95-100 pack where he belongs.

This guy is back in my team.
Defence is a headache again and Shaw is the no1 to have... One less to worry about!
He'll score points other defenders won't get close to. Sure he costs $ but would rather have him locked in, and trade in another player down the track (instead of Shaw/ who others will look to upgrade to) who on exposed form mid season looks a top 6 ...than take a punt on a speculative or average pick who I might get stuck with and be a top15-20 pick.

He's a lock for me. Boyd will miss games  McVeigh's interrupted pre-season. I need some one in that D1 spot i'm sure will give me something better than average so because of all that i'm spending the cash because I think he's worth it and he hasn't moved from the day SC opened.
