Given Crowley has been earmarked for the defensive forward role I think it's far from a certainty. Essendon will also be giving guys like Langford & Redman some experience, they know they will be the easy beats in 2016 so it will be about the future. Kommer may have a defensive game but that can only take you so far, he has never kicked multiple goals in a home & away game, that's hardly a statistic to hang your hat on.

As you said, it's about the future. I'd say Kommer could be a big part of the future of the EFC, so why wouldn't he be given games this year? If fit I think he adds a new dimension to a fairly lacklustre Essendon forward line.

Woosh has said Crowley won't be playing a lock down role at this stage and will be pushing forward. Which i can't see lasting because he can't hit a target by foot, but that won't affect Kommer. I can guarantee Kommer is more important to Essendon's future than Crowley.

There's been that many taken out of that senior side, there's no reason by Langford and Kommer can't play in the same side. He was best 22 when they were all there, so safe to say he'll be 22 now.

From what I've seen of Kommer is a one-dimensional player, reasonable defensive pressure but very little scoreboard impact. He doesn't get huge numbers, his scoring output is one goal a match every second game, he rarely gets goal assists, half the time his disposal count is in single figures. Essendon have recruited plenty of forwards who can play Kommer's role, I don't think you can just chalk in a 25 y/o with 19 mediocre games to his credit as being a walk up starter. The Bombers desperately need midfielders, they actually seem to have a very solid forward line despite the suspensions.

A lot has happened since Kommer played - Cooney, Bird, Stokes, Merrett, Laverde, Redman, Langford and Crowley have all joined the club. I honestly don't understand the Kommer love to be honest, football talent aside, he's not even a great rookie prospect, even if he does play enough for 3-4 price rises.

In his first year he made 150k in 6-7 games. I'll take that from a F7/F8 when forward rookies are very thin

He has hardly kicked a football for two years and only starting running in December, good luck to all those starting Kommer at F6, would much rather pay the dough and get a Conca, Simpkin or Anderson.

With all that's transpired over the past two years I think I'll be looking at others for F7 & F8. I currently have two defenders there in Adams & M.Brown, defence seems to be the best bet with rookies this year.

It sure is. Have said that since day 1.

Interesting strat having 2 DEFs in your fwd line tho. I've conceded i might need 1, but i think we should be ok as we get through NAB and a few other fwd rookies pop up

The change in coaches might also affect Kommer's chances.  He's by no means a talented player.  More a Morris type who gets his spot through determination and effort.  Some coaches like that.  If he is match ready though, I can see him getting the nod.  His selection will naturally come down to getting named round 1.

Fair comparison, having endured Morris & to a lesser extent Nathan Gordon, I can tell you there is no longer a place for these types in modern day football. Small forwards should be kicking goals as well as providing defensive pressure. One thing is true, you can teach a guy to exert forward pressure but you can't teach them where the goals are. Half a goal a game is unacceptable, particularly given the best are producing 40-50 goal seasons.

Kommer has an indefinable quality which borders on recklessness but goes far beyond that.  The fans are anxious to see him again because he ignites situations.  He puts his heart and soul into every blocked kick.  His tackles are theatrical.  That's why the fans love him and the coaches love him.  He exudes football.

That's exactly the reason Morris was gifted games, at some point however you need a guy who can deliver on the scoreboard. It is possible to get both qualities in a player, Rioli is a perfect example. The issue is Kommer's ability to bounce back after knee surgery, mentally it won't be so easy to return to the kamikaze role he played in 2013. The ball won't be in the forward line much either, I can see Worsfold picking an opportunist player who can score with regularity as opposed to a defensive type.

You were asking about F5 and F6.  Currently have Bird at F4 followed by Wells, Jed Anderson, N Cockatoo and C Petracca. Hope I'm wrong about Conca being a Tiger supporter, but I think he is one who just won't achieve his potential.    :'(
