The Fyfe scare came when Lyon was on holiday with his family in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Fyfe hurt his back on the final day of training in 2015.

The club doctor told Lyon that the back had “tightened up’’ and that subsequent scans showed a disc had bulged.

Most importantly the doctor said Fyfe didn’t need an operation and that the Brownlow medallist would head home to Lake Grace to rest it for up to two months.

Media reports then suggested Fyfe needed an operation and his season was in trouble.

“I was reading all this, that Nathan had a neck brace on, was in an iron lung, was in traction,’’ Lyon said.

“I was in Hanoi and starting to read all this. So I sent an email to the club doctor. I asked: ‘Did I misunderstand your email and feedback?’

“And he said: ‘No Nathan is fine.’

“So, hyperbole. Did he tweak his back? Yes. Did he have an operation? No. That’s where it sits.

“But there was so much written about it, I had to make an inquiry. And then it was OK, I’ll get back to my spring rolls.’’

Fyfe has resumed full training with plans to play him in Round 2 of the NAB Challenge.

The main thing I got out of all that is that Ross the Boss doesn't like interruptions when eating spring rolls.

Haha yeah I Lost it when I read.. "And then it was OK, I'll get back to my spring rolls"
Could just imagine Ross saying it in that slow sarcastic voice of his

Followed by the dull Ross Lyon laugh

Followed by "we're under no illusions"

*Eyes dart around the room*

All will be revealed in the fullness of time.

I'd love to know some stats on how an interrupted preseason effects some of the more 'seasoned' players.

A guy like McVeigh should still be considered if named round 1 IMO, possibly Selwood too.

Depends on the injury really but even if it's not Ablett level still want to know who's not firing on all cylinders R1 when looking at their price-tag.

If Selwood is at 90% fitness and his price is considered 10% discounted then that's fair. McVeigh is too pricey for me if not 100%

Not sure if many are considering him early on but pretty sure Jack Redden's been dealing with some adductor issues, Sheed had his problems as well.

Both on track to play some NAB, probably the final round.

Fyfe's back is fine man. It was just a load of media blowup

Just been announced that Gary will miss the first NAB with a foot niggle.  Hope it's not one of THOSE foot niggles.

TomK

It's just a foot sprain apparently, nothing to worry about.
