Is Aaron hall a good/stupid pick for FWD 4 or 5?

Did you have Rocky Holz? Who did you trade him to?
I would have thought Rocky to Hall would be more urgent than Rocky to Parker or so?

I went rocky to parker.

there are soo many good rookies up front. look at it this way hall is going 120 and there are 3 guys wihtihin that prcied at 230k or less.

Parker is going what 50 points above the next best rookie in his postion?

Parker will smash hall over a season, ill happily pay an extra 110k for the big big point difference.

Hall is playing in my mids at present so that argument is flawed. In due course he will be switched but he's producing just as much as Parker etc.

yes at the moment

at the moment GC is undefeated (and will probably be 4-0)

lets see what he goes over the North Geelong Dees Giants Crows Eagles Swans schedule

remember this stat when you wonder why he has slowed down

108 touches over 3 games is amazing. 28 contested is not. You dont get that much uncontested ball when you are losing. You also dont get that much uncontested ball when there are better players then you back in the squad demanding the ball.

Last season -

vs North (98)
vs Melb (DNP)
vs GWS (37)
vs Crows (100)
vs Eagles (92)
vs Swans (98)

One dud score in that batch and that was playing in the forward line and without a decent preseason.

So what do people do?

Do they sideways Barlow? Do they downtrade a premium and upgrade a rookie? At 480k, he's not going to be easy to get in. I've missed him and I'm trying to come to peace with that.
You do what you always do, wait until it's time to cull rookies and time to upgrade to a premium. if you think Hall will be the player to average in the top 6 FROM THAT POINT ONWARDS then pick Hall, if not, don't pick Hall.

I didn't start with him, of course I wish I had his points over who I did pick at F3 (Westhoff) but I'm not gonna go making a rash trade to bring him in asap. Each trade I make will hopefully have the maximum benefit to my team. If that means waiting longer on Hall (which at this stage it will), then I will wait.

Congrats to those that started him though, hopefully he doesn't keep it up though :P

Trading in now would be silly as you have missed 3 120-130 scores and you will pay more cash, since he won't average 125
one can assume its slightly down hill from here, same boat as S.Mitchell who may go big for another couple of weeks (especially while Hodge is out) but he will come back down to earth over the 2nd half of the year.

Congrats to those who started both, as you have the upper hand thus far..

MC

Trading him in now is not the worst idea, though i'd suggest being careful with your expectations.

Most picked Hall to be a 95-avg player for the season. Him starting well shouldn't drastically change your perception. Being realistic  we might suggest he'll go at 20/100 (allowing 2 missed gamew for injury/rest/suspension etc -- Did you see his knee strapping?!)

20x100 = 2000 total points for the season.
So far, Hall has managed 3/129 for a total of 387 points.

2000-387 = 1613 remaining = 94 average from here to manage 20/100 stats.

So the question becomes: Can you justify trading out a player like Barlow (who will more than likely reach an average of 90-odd based on recent history) for a player who will likely average only a few extra points?

Why not go for Waite who's averaging 150?  :P

Had to get BKennedy and Papley this week.
Hall will come in next week. Didn't consider him for R1 so not too upset but is a must have and can't fall any further behind.

There is nothing wrong with getting him this week

If he is about 480k, that's still cheap for a prem forward BUT the problem is how you get him. I would not be sideways trading a prem forward, unless it was someone like say Sam Gray who doesn't look like being the best of picks

If you held onto Rocky that might be an option too

Best bet would be to wait a few more weeks, let your rookies moo and then if he is still looking good bring in him

Holz, I don't think whether his possessions are contested or not really means that much. It doesn't matter how he gets the ball as long as he gets it and clearly that is not an issue for him

His handball receives numbers are huge because he is an outside player. Gaff would be a good comparison - scores well but barely gets contested ball

Have Crouch sitting on the bench at $300k and have $230k in the kitty thanks to a corrective trade. Think it's worth trading to Hall while he is sub $500k ?

Only if Crouch is not named this week.

The numbers are very important in context.

Without swallow jom, gc are an average or below average team so when your not winning there isnt as much free uncontestested ball.

With swallow jom they look to them more, as you said handball recieves for that you need someone to choose to handball to you.

Gaff is an all australian playing for a team that made last years grandfinal.

Hall is a guy who would be delisted if not for needing to keep him.

He is good i never said he wasnt. Just dont see him going above 95 from here on out so 480k is toomuch

HotTiges

he's not good, he's very good..been learning off the great one..can't see him moving away from the midfield even when JOM/Swallow come back..

He has a 129 average already, it's hard not to see him with a 95+ average come season end with this sort of start.
