if Rocky goes forward more instead of the bench he can rack up 40 touches and kick a goal or 2 each game easy

Marstar

If his fewer tackles result in turnovers to goal and he scores important goals .... etc etc ... all resulting Champion Data worship ... not much changes.

They will never leave him there to twiddle his thumbs for extended periods.

If Brisbane want to improve as a team Rockliff will play forward and kick 35 goals. If they want to go nowhere he'll run around racking up 40 possessions that amount to nothing on the scoreboard.

As much as Buckley sucks as a coach he's got it right with Swan playing forward.

His tackling though but i guess that is usefull up front

Rocky isn't a loss in the midfield. He's not a great creative kick like Rich. He doesn't kick goals from the midfield like Beams. He's not as hard as Robinson. He's not a good runner like Hanley and Bastinac. He's a kick chaser that rarely puts in match winning performances despite his extreme numbers. Wins enough of his own contested ball to be considered a very good player but the mids won't miss him that much if he plays 50% forward.

Look at what Lids and Swan are doing. Having more influence over matches from the forward line. Rocky could still average 115 in the same role as them if he's good enough. Personally I doubt it but 105-110 is likely since he'll still get plenty of mid time.

He won't be able to accumulate 40 touches with less rest. If he's playing forward enough to kick 40 goals for the year he's going to lose a significant amount of time in the middle.

Does this cause any concerns?
and Voss got flamed for doing this lol

They said fyfe could too. I dont buy it

Some of the quotes in the article are from the mouth of Rockliff himself. You calling him a liar?

what he says he plans to do and what happens will be influenced by the coach and how the strategy is working out. He will probably rotate through the forward line abit but i dont see him playing as a marking forward and spending lots of time down there.

we will just see if it pans out that way but when it comes to game time lets see if it holds up.

He is too good to not be used in the midfield alot.

Fair to say that with reductions in interchange that the question "will you spend more time forward?" will be asked to players and coaches with the obvious answer of "yes" and of course they write an article suggesting more time forward.

No need to worry as most midfielders will now be rested either forward or back, Fyfe, Rocky, Ablett, Pendles, etc included

I feel like we should be putting plenty of games into guys like Freeman, Close, McStay, Schache, etc etc

We have all these young key forwards now, Freeman in particular I really like, and with the recruitment of Walker as well, I think 2 of those guys + Walker, with Green, Zorko, Squizz, Bundy, Bell all playing fwd too would mean that Rocky won't really be spending that much time fwd.

I just took Rocky out for Parker after reading that article. I'll likely end up putting him back in but I don't mind the extra 12k. Still, that article reads pretty ominous and I actually rate Brisbane's mids as a team.

Beams/Rocky/Zorko/Bell/Robinson/Christensen and the rookies. That's alot of depth, and Rocky isn't a goalkicking mid like Parker is.

I could well be wrong, but I just have this feeling.......

jvalles69

I would be very surprised if Rocky played more forward time than Zorko, Christenson, Robinson, Bell and even Beams!

Zorko will spend a lot of time forward, his pressure there is insane.
Bell will spend a lot of time playing around half forward. Same with Christensen.
Robinson will likely spend more time in the mids than those guys.

Kinda funny that you din't mention Hanley or Rich or Bastinac first :P
The former two will likely spend a bit of time off half back as well though.

With the increased midfield depth, when Rocky does go forward, there's a higher chance of the ball actually getting to him now. He spent a fair bit of time forward in 2013 and still averaged 109.6, I'll back him to go 110+ fairly comfortably this year.

Rockliff will play like Rockliff where ever he is , if you believed everytime they say a mid will go forward and it happened you would have half your gun mids out of your team so if your worried don't pick him that is better for us who do  ;)

Ringo

Whether Rocky is forward or mid what will not change is his tackling and he is a beast averaging over 8 a game for the last 2 years with a career high 17 last year and SC Gold as tackles are worth 4pts each.  If forward he will be expected to exert pressure as well.

Bully

Every tear there is an article about about Rocky playing forward and every year he comes out and records freakish numbers. It's a bit like the Franklin article, apparently he will be playing more in the midfield this year, take it with a grain of salt.
