Mat0369

I'll post players I am keeping an eye on in this post. It will probably be similar to my SC team so I might do a copy and paste

Defenders

Bartel - Underpriced due to the knee. He is the junk time master so he should be an excellent pick for this format.

Smith - Underpriced with the concussions and was AA the previous year. With the Crows acquisitions and the loss of Danger they have more rebounding HB's and could see him push up the ground.

Andrew Mackie - Quad injuries hampered him for most of the season but he finished with a bang. He averaged over 95 from round 15 which makes him the 4th best defender based on averages.

Docherty - I think he could move into a more permanent midfield role this year but it will be interesting to see how Bolton uses him. He also doesn't use the ball all that well which is not great for SC is perfect for DT. I have him locked in for this comp but I think he is one I will monitor a bit in the pre-season and see how he goes.

Simmo - I am curious to see his role in NAB 3. If we have a full squad and he looks to be playing on the wing I will seriously have to look at him.

Boyd - Upgrade target

Z. Williams - Back end to the season was pretty solid once he lost the vest but the Giants also had injury strike. I am not sure how he fits in the 22 so it's a wait and see.

McVeigh - Probably underdone so another upgrade target.

Aish - Not certain if he is worth it in this comp because I see him as a classy finisher and not an accumulator. If he uses the ball like most expect him to I think it helps him in SC and he is over 300k in this comp. I'll wait and assess in the NAB

Harwood - Seems to score better in SC but he is cheap and should average at last 70 if he gets a gig.

Suckling - Averaged 80 and that includes a couple of vest games. New team at the Dogs but the coach already has a great relationship with him. Could be a very sneaky POD.

Mullett - A tad over 200k but could easily average mid 70's if he gets a solid run at it.

Whitecross - Probably too expensive in DT compared to SC but he is one to keep an eye on.

Mohr - KPP and hasn't played in a while but another if rookies are low to look at.

S. Shaw -  Same as Mohr

M. Brown (WC) - Read above

Other rookies

Mids

Jack Steven - He was the man in DT last year. Just racks up the touches and loves to tackle. I will look at starting at least one of him, Lewis or Armo.

Jordan Lewis - Huge start to the year before slowing down and getting suspended. Has to be considered again.

Armitage - Break out year last season and started the year on fire. Slowed down on the back end but was still brilliant.

Gaz - Mid 500k for a guy that can get 30 touches without trying, lock

Pendles - Mr consistent, he is one I will look at starting in both comps.

Rocky - Under priced considering what he is capable of, locked in

Parker - Concussed in round 1 and struggled a couple weeks after that, got injured again to end the season so I see him as under priced. Can do everything and rack up the touches. I see him having a big year.

Tom Mitchell - Breakout season but I want to start Parker who is cheaper. I can't start him over Rocky/Gaz/Pendles/Steven etc. so he will have to be an upgrade target

Ebert - Will probably start the year on fire before sliding after about round 11 but with so many other options that I can see being far more consistent I can't start him.

Sidebottom - I saw a breakout last year and he started well before getting injured, same as Ebert though, can only fit in so many guns.

Lachie Hunter - I really want to start him considering how he finished the year. I have absolutely 0 cash left so I can't upgrade Crouch to him.

Libba - Mid price option that should be a decent stepping stone.

B. Crouch - See Libba

Simpkin - Cheap, DPP and should see time in a depleted Essendon midfield. Someone has to get the ball other then Goddard.

Rucks

Goldy - Wins hit outs and the ball around the ground, the new Cox and is locked.

Martin - Wins so much pill around the ground that he is able to put up big DT numbers. Got him locked in as well

Lobbe - Don't consider him a DT player and is too pricey maybe. More of someone to look at in SC

Leuenberger - Seems to have lingering injuries again meaning I am probably going to pass

Forwards

Lids - More of a SC option due to his ball use but I'll still probably start him considering I see him under priced due to the vest in R1.

Gunston - Was killing it before the hand injury, one to consider in the forward line but probably can't start Gunston, Barlow and Robbo

Barlow - Has to be locked considering what he is capable of and can now be selected as a forward.

Robinson - Huge back end to the year, I have him locked in both comps and he is probably suited more to DT since he has a tendency to just hack the ball away without looking.

Tom Bell - Similar player to Robbo actually and I'm a big fan of Bell. He was quickly becoming my favorite player at the Blues. Could have a big year.

Joey - Wish I had the cash for him but I don't. I might look at trying to find a way I can fit him in.

Wells - If he is fit at his price he is a must start. I'm not sure if I trust his body but it's too good to pass up.

Andrew Walker -  If he is fit and plays half back he has to be considered. Can win a ton of the pill as a rebounding half back and I expect us to play more attacking footy.

Mat0369

So my first team

So many mids I want....

Hunter, Armitage, Lewis........

I had to get back a bit because I had no cash

Big Mac

Sorry mate, I'm new to DT so don't really have any advice to offer

In regards to Docherty though, is he a good pick in DT or do you just see him improving a lot this year?

Cheers

Mat0369

I only played DT for the first time last year in a long time. It's basically pick the possession sluts. I think Bolton will have us playing a high possession brand of footy. Docherty can rack up the pill but his disposal can be questionable. I have an interest in him for SC as well but considering DE% means nothing in DT I am thinking he could be a good pick.

Lewis and Armitage had really good seasons last year as well. I'm seriously contemplating maybe dumping Libba for Hunter as well. I don't think Libba has ever been an elite DT player where as Hunter finished the year real strong and was racking up large possession tallies.

Mr.Craig

Bit harsh on Libba there. 18 of his 77 career games have been 110+. Treloar (16/79) and Macrae (16/55) are probably the only young guys who have a comparable record.

But I do love Hunter...

Mat0369

#5
I think Hunter has a higher ceiling in this comp. Libba is a tackling machine so it might see him have a higher floor, but Hunter averaged over 100 unsubbed after his last vest which means he is a potential bargain considering where he is also priced at. He just continually racked up the pill to end the season and from what I gather has had an uninterrupted pre-season.

What makes Libba elite in SC is his contested possession numbers doubled with his tackling. The fact that contested possessions count for nothing other then if it's a kick or handpass makes me think he doesn't have a super high ceiling. I haven't really payed close attention to his numbers considering last year was the first time I played in a while and he was out. I just know there was a large gap between his SC and DT numbers because of the scoring systems. I always thought the same for Jobe and JPK.

I actually went and had a look at where his numbers stack up the last couple of seasons. Assuming he has a slight decrease by a couple points he will have a 98-95 average. That probably puts him around the Marc Murphy to Luke Shuey range, so the 30-45th best mid on average and maybe a serviceable mid 8 considering I think I had Smith and he is in that region. 98 is Libba's career best and it is unreasonable for me to think he bounces back and hits that right away. Even if he does, that is a 30-45th best mid. I wouldn't say it's elite, it's good, but not elite. In SC he hit 110 which puts him at 11 based on last years numbers and makes him a bottom end super premo. The way I am analyzing it is while he might be a lock in one comp based on potential, in the other maybe not so much.

Mat0369

So my team as it stands right now looks like this

Bartel, Docherty, Smith, Harwood, Brown, Hartley, Collins, Ruggles

Pendles, Armo, Rocky, Parker, Gaz, Libba, Crouch, Mills, Menadue, Gresham, Marcon

Martin, Goldy, Currie

Lids, Barlow, Robbo, Conca, Wells, Kerridge, Kommer, Grimley

I have about 1k left

I downgraded Steven to Armo so I could get a couple of the more expensive rookies for the time being. I think I have  the flexibility to bring Steven back in if I really want to anyway.

nas

Mate, know it's only NAB, but Conca with a hammy twinge, & Crouch out on the turps & suspect soft tissues, maybe need to be addressed?

Mat0369

Team was done before Conca went full Conca. I have moved Menadue forward and put in a temp midfielder. I'm keeping Crouch unless he isn't named round 1, a bit of booze might be enough to make him a POD

Mat0369

So this is my team as it stands going into tomorrow. I'll make some decisions once the Sunday teams are announced.

So when Conca got injured I turned him into Kennedy, then when Lids was in doubt I turned him into Hall. I am still not entirely sold on Hall but the extra cash was vital.

I ended up sticking with Doc after I contemplated turning him into Suckling. Scoring 99 and getting 29 touches is helping to vindicate that. He is looking to break the lines in defense and get involved in chains of possession which is a huge plus, the high possession game plan should see him get a ton of the pill. However a lot of those possessions are by hand and his ball use is still meh at times (which is one reason I looked at him in DT over SC).

Sticking with defense, I am not completely sold on Dea but with a lack of cheap options (I was hoping Ruggles could cement a spot) and a strong NAB I have included him for now. I have a bad taste in my mouth though.

Harwood is in for now, if he is out of the team I'll have to figure out something there, I am thinking of downgrading to EMac unless anyone else has a suggestion? I am just hoping Harwood isn't one into the emergency column to be honest.

Mat0369

I am also going to add I am not a huge fan of McCarthy, while the Cats love him I don't know if he is going to be good for more then 40 most weeks. Having said that, I slotted him in for now but feel more comfortable knowing I have Menadue ahead of him at F7. He can be a slow burn and probably has better JS then the Paps who looked good in the NAB as well.

Mat0369

I turned Gresh into Dunkley otherwise my team is as above. A couple of disappointments and I was looking like I was in for a big week before the Lions game. Harwood is the one that I'm really thinking what have I done. I'm tempted to turn him into EMack, especially if he gets dropped but I'll wait and see.

Mat0369

So basically like most I am trying to decide who to turn Rocky into.

It's come down to one of four

1. Tom Mitchell - has been absolutely huge to start the season and has a favourable match up against the Giants at home.

2. Lewis - I traded him in early last season and he was awesome. He has started with back to back tons and could be a great POD option with a lot probably look to get in one of the Mitchell's

3. Armo - Another that was brilliant last year and I wanted to get him in pretty bad. Only downside is his bye but another POD.

4. Hunter - This is the guy I said would breakout and he is doing just that. He won't get any cheaper then he is now but Mitchell feels like a safer option.

Rusty00

It's a tough choice as there are so many options to choose from and you feel like you want/need them all. I'm going Hunter as like you I thought he would break out this year and the extra money helps kick start future upgrades. I do already have T Mitchell though who I picked in both DT and AF expecting him to be one of the top 3-5 scoring players this year.

Mat0369

I went with Mitchell in the end and gave him the C over Steven. I think the reason there are so many options at the moment is because of teams playing such high possession footy through the midfield. Because you're getting more guys with 25-30 touches a week we are getting a lot more in terms of options where in SC you still have the points cap which is stopping this.
