I have not got him but jeez the poor bloke just gets tagged every game , think the secret for some success in SC is avoid players that always cop the tag I got Zaha this year and he was fantastic early but then the tags started and he is way worse than Rich when it happens so there is 2 to avoid add Cotch to that

Capper

Am thinking about going to Laird this weekend if LAird is playing

Oh pleaseeee, the best mids beat a tag each and every week - Danger, Fyfe, Gaz, Pendles, Sloane etc

This bloke is just flowering soft, only enjoys the easy ball on the outside, doesn't wanna get his stupid blonde mop dirty and just gives up when he sees a bloke right on his hammer all game
If he actually decided to work hard I'm sure he could do so so much better. Attends most centre bounces, is around the ball more
Often than not, has beautiful foot skills and isn't too bad overhead, I mean he has all the tools

But he just gives in way too easy, mentally, I reckon he's soft as butter

Well said mate. Took him from the get go in 2 formats, but as Grazz says to me about Zaha, just put a cardboard copy of  anybody next to him, and bang, he's gone ( Rich I'm talking ). Pity, as he's a good/ great player

The ones that break tags are either:
a) The best players in the league (So those guys mentioned above, Danger, Fyfe, Gary)
or
b) They have help from teammates to break that tag (Say Sam Mitchell, Andrew Gaff, Heath Shaw probably, even Joel Selwood fits here)

then there's the blokes in the Rich, Cotchin, Lewis Jetta group which aren't the best in the game so aren't good enough to break a good tag on their own, and don't get help from teammates to break that tag.

I can only look at what I saw when at the Port vs Hawks game a few weeks back, when we put Kane Mitchell on Sam Mitchell, and seeing how the Hawks really want the ball in Sam's hands, they make efforts at stoppages to block and put off Kane's path to Sam. I don't watch enough Brisbane but clearly they don't do this successfully for Rich.

I think it's very harsh what's being said about Daniel Rich, I would say blame has to go to the team as much as it goes to Rich himself.

You kidding me PB? This bloke won a rising star back in the day, can you believe that?

He's playing an uninspired, low work rate, easy, uncontested style of footy, and he's being found out.

The comparison to Cotch in unfair on Cotch. He's had a good year, and is a good player. He's proved himself.
Comparison to Gaff/Jetta, Heater, is also void as they don't play on ball, and play wing/half back which is an easier position to be tagged.

SMitch is a jet. He's one of the best players in the league.

The best comparison that I could possibly think of that even gains half the attention Rich does, is Marc Murphy. And he still musters 25 touches a game and does some nice things.

You cannot tell me, that a bloke of Rich's calibre, playing in the guts, can play 100 minutes of football, and only touch it 7 times with only 5 tackles, with a bloke tagging him (Jacobs) and tell me his work rate is upto scratch. Can touch it 12 times against GC even, only 2 weeks ago, with nobody playing on him.

He's averaging 19 touches and after Round 1 where he got 11 tackles, he's averaging 4 tackles per game. That is not good enough.
If his name wasn't Daniel Rich and Brisbane weren't shower, he'd be trade bait and probably dropped a month ago.

Sometimes you have to actually help yoursel though. His work rate and desire to break through it aren't intense enough and that's what's letting him down. Has all the other tools and potential to be an elite mid.
I can't feel sorry for him and the criticism anyway.. Cotchin gets tagged every week and beats it more often than not but then gets beaten badly every now and then and people sink the boots in and say hes the worst player in the comp at handling a tag  ::)

Jimmykidd

he's just weak as piss. and if the lions weren't struggling so bad he'd be up for trade. now he has a 5 year deal. poor lions.

no sympathy for him. he has been around long enough now and hes still lazy. the bloke infuriates me!

bowyanger

I try to spend 2 minutes thinking of an argument in Rich's favour....and I cant really.

There is quality around him that should take some focus from him, but it doesn't seem to happen, or he doesn't take advantage of that if it does happen during a game

All I can think is that the coach tells him not to tackle or he is confused with his role instead of his natural game.

Hanley has gone downhill also it seems.

Unfortunately after this year, Rich is going to be plonked on my "Missy Higgins Pile" of "been burnt twice...never again"

crowls

The good news in all of this is that 2017 price will around 450k and none of us would touch him at that price.

If he didn't have d/m this year I wouldn't have considered him either.    In fact it is McVeigh's fault for not being available at the start of the year that I ended up with this flog!!!!!!    Now MCV is sitting on my mid bench having a coldy instead of scoring for me.     >:( >:( >:(

Blasphemy! Rich isn't half the player Murphy is and I wouldn't even be looking at the two for a comparison of any kind. Taking out the two games where Murphy was ill/injured he is averaging 24 touches and 0.75 goals per game. Even if you keep the injury games in, he is averaging better in every statistical category this season then Rich apart from tackles. Murphy's  stats this year are still close to Rich's career best numbers and no where near Murphy's. Murph also breaks the tag.

If you want to compare him to someone, he is Travis Johnstone.

Omg Rich is so bad he's only the 27th best defender by average of those that have played more than 10 games for the year so far and the 23rd highest scoring defender for the season :'(

If only I had the foresight to pick a player that averages more like Steven May or Robbie Tarrant. Or I wish I forked out more or equal $$ and got a more proven player like Bachar Houli, Robert Murphy, Elliot Yeo, Matthew Suckling or Brodie Smith ::)

Rich may not have been great, but he's going above 80 and been durable (Only missed 1 week).

Certainly not a player I would pick next year though :P

)Hey, take out Brodie's 25 and he's doing pretty well.  :P

somebody call up the AFL and see if they can get Brissy a few more games vs the Bombers to see the season out.
