Bully

Here's some analysis with Rich's draw and last year's numbers, don't think he's a flat track bully.

R1 vs West Coast (74)
R2 vs North (100 & 56)
R3 vs Geelong (65)
R4 vs GC (89 & 92)
R5 vs Dogs (55 & 95)
R6 vs Sydney (78)
R7 vs Port (122)
R8 vs Coll (126)

I reckon from these stats it's clear Rich can score against anyone, hence I wouldn't base the decision on the fixture.

Yes, he attended that much centre bounces, had 28, 16 contested

Scored 101 only.

Also 8 clearances, 10 inside 50's and a super goal

Mainly due to 8 clangers which is very unRich like. I'm torn on this one, will probably steer clear due to Brisbane's draw.

3 of his clangers were frees against. He went at 75% efficiency which is good for a inside midfielder

No-one's mentioned that the conditions were really slippery and Heater was about the only one that could hit a target all day (and even he struggled).

Very encouraging game from Rich, some-one I may look to fit in over the next week.

Think Rich looks a lot more settled this year and it showed yesterday.  Only concern for me is with Beams delayed start to the season he more than likely now attract a tag, (Hanley and Rich will be the players tagged first)  so hopefully has improved in this area.

So I haven't been the biggest Rich advocate, but just reading what Ringo posted in his team thread where the assistant coach said Rich will play 90% in the mids this year has got me reconsidering

Ringo

Confirmation from the assistant coach Danny Daly that I made a calculated decision with Rich

On Daniel Rich:

“Obviously, last year coming off a knee reconstruction - Richy had 28 possessions for the game 16 of those contested, he also had 10 inside 50s and 10 score involvements.

“He’s been training in the midfield throughout the whole pre-season. He’ll probably play 90% of his time through the midfield.

“He actually had five centre bounce clearances for the game. His ability to read the play; we all know he has a beautiful kick on him, and his ability to work through the lines as a midfielder and get that ball into our forwards is going to be crucial for us in 2016.”

hmmm thats what you want, full-time mids you can select in fwd or backs

would have to be Laird for him for me but this also allows me to go Brown to Dea

After reading that extremely considering, only thing that worries me is him copping the tag and his ability to cope with it

For reference, here is the career average for Rich vs the first 10 teams he plays

West Coast -75.50

North Melbourne -89.78

Geelong - 78.56

Gold Coast - 97.29

Western Bulldogs - 80.10

Sydney - 79.50

Port Adelaide - 88.33

Collingwood - 80.17

Melbourne - 81.75

Hawthorn - 78.50

That's a total average of 82.95. I'm still thinking if I grab him it will be as a D7 down the track when he dips in price.

Yep all jump off so I can have him to myself. Judge for yourself though as stats do not always tell the full picture given last year Rich really struggled coming back from an ACL so scoring suffered.  First full pre-season for a couple of years has him primed.

The thing is Rich came into the league as a ready made player and has never really had much variance in his scores from year 1 until now. He does have a high ceiling to bring the average back up, but 85 seems about right. I'm thinking that an 82 average to round 10 is about what to expect with maybe a slow start the first couple and a monster score vs GC. The first 10 is probably the hardest part of Brisbane's draw as well. He probably won't be a bad pick, but he isn't one I am picking.

Having trouble with D3...keep coming back to this bloke..

He is just so damn damaging that I think he'll get tagged often as he has in the past and end up averaging around 85 which is not good enough to be a keeper.
