JAMES KELLY ($410,100, Mid)

The three-time premiership player played 17 games and averaged 76 SuperCoach points for Geelong last year before “retiring”. As a result, no discount is applied to Kelly’s 2016 price.

However, he could still prove to be a bargain with the Bombers likely to use him off half-back and through the midfield. Kelly averaged 88+ in seven of the past eight seasons.

Kelly missed several games with injury in 2015 but has rarely been injured throughout his career. Given his experience, a shortened pre-season shouldn’t be an issue.

RYAN CROWLEY ($202,800, Mid)

Crowley didn’t play a game in 2015 due to a drug ban of his own. As a result, the shutdown tagger is available with a big discount.

However, we don’t expect him to suddenly become SuperCoach relevant. Crowley has never averaged more than 67 in his career and that was in his debut year.

Crowley’s SuperCoach contribution will be freeing fellow Essendon midfielders up from tagging duties with the likes of Craig Bird, Zach Merrett, Jackson Merrett or a youngster able to do what they do best ... win the football.

IN THE WINGS

JONATHAN SIMPKIN ($223,400, Mid-Fwd)

The former Swan, Cat and Hawk is yet to be officially confirmed but we can still reveal his SuperCoach price and position for 2016.

After only playing one game (and scoring 26), Simpkin gets a nice discount and retains his midfield-forward dual eligibility. Simpkins’ scoring history has been cruelled by the sub vest with his best effort 68 in 13 games in 2013.

Like Kelly, Simpkin should come in and play a bigger role than he was playing at his former club. The midfielder averaged 27.5 disposals in the VFL for Box Hill and an incredible 38 per match in the Hawks’ finals campaign.

WHO ELSE, POTENTIALLY?

These players are rumoured to be on Essendon’s wishlist but haven’t been confirmed. It’s fun to play list manager though.

JAMES POLKINGHORNE

The midfielder was delisted by Brisbane Lions at the end of 2014 after 94 games, which should mean he’ll be available at a rookie price similar to Mitch Brown.

Polkinghorne was a top-up player during the 2015 NAB Challenge and remained at Essendon, winning the Bombers best and fairest in the VFL. He averaged over 20 possessions a game at VFL level.

POSSIBLE SUPERCOACH PRICE/POSITION: $117,300, Midfielder

MATT DEA

The defender won Richmond’s VFL best and fairest but was delisted by the Tigers at the end of last season after failing to play an AFL game.

Dea was never a high scorer in SuperCoach but should be relatively cheap in 2016 given he’ll be eligible for a big discount. In seven games in 2014, he averaged 56.

POSSIBLE SUPERCOACH PRICE/POSITION: $210,000 â€" $220,000 Defender

MARK JAMAR

Ironically, after being delisted by Melbourne at the end of last season, the big man became an assistant coach at Essendon and is now being asked to pull the boots on once more.

Jamar played five games in 2015 and averaged 74 but would be unlikely to feature in red and black with Matthew Leuenberger, Shaun McKernan and rookie Gach Nyoun on the list.

POSSIBLE SUPERCOACH PRICE/POSITION: $310,000 â€" $320,000 Ruck

SAM GRIMLEY

The former Hawk was the VFL’s leading goalkicker in 2014 and 2015 but couldn’t displace Jarryd Roughead, Jack Gunston and David Hale in the Hawthorn team.

Grimley only played three games â€" all in 2013 where he averaged 65. The big man would be a good spoil for Joe Daniher in the Bombers forward line and can pinch-hit in the ruck.

POSSIBLE SUPERCOACH PRICE/POSITION: $120,000 â€" $140,000, Ruck-Forward

MATTHEW WATSON

A former top 10 draft pick, Watson wasn’t able to find his niche at Carlton and was delisted after just four games in 2015. He averaged just 52 last year but almost 80 in three games in 2014.

Watson can bolster the Bombers defence as well as swing forward if need be. His booming left foot is a major weapon at either end of the ground.

POSSIBLE SUPERCOACH PRICE/POSITION: $200,000 â€" $220,000, Defender-Forward

Disappointed with Simpkin's price. Was hoping he would be priced between 160-180k.

I don't think I'll be picking him at 223k.

Yeh neither man. Bit too much i think

Only one of these players I'm considering on that information is Grimley. No Bellchambers, Hooker, Hurley could see him used as a forward and back up ruck, especially with Lueys injury history also factored in. Would happily pay 120-140k for a bench ruck who may play 13-18 games.

If he plays from rd1 you have no loop hole, so its what's worth more? the potential extra points from loopholing or the cash generation you get from having a playing R3

If he isnt named early on Essendon's first 4 games aren't very loophole friendly so you will have limited vc options

Rd1: Richmond: Dusty, Lids vs Carlton: Nothing
Rd2: Richmond: Dusty, Lids Pies: Pendles
Rd3: Nothing, Bombers Friday night
Rd4; Richmond:Dusty, Lids WC: NicNat, Priddis

Shaun McKernan would play a lot forward and be the back up ruck I would suspect.

I still think Bootsma should be picked up by the dons ???

RaisyDaisy

Nothing to see here, move along

Well maybe Polkinghorne if we're desperate

PiPies

The only one from that list that interested me was Simpkin, at that price though I'll be picking Anderson or Duggan.

quinny88

If polkinghorne gets signed I'd have a look at him closely through the nab. No one else really jumping out at me though

Sabretooth Tigers

 :)

No points value for dollars anywhere among those. Absolutely less than no interest.      ::)

Much rather the players already on the list than these guys.

I like the price of simpkin, i think he could be a very good pick up and isnt a lock. his F/M is great though.

2013 unsubbed 87 average
2014 unsubbed 84 average

he should go 75+ easy if given a decent role.

not only is he underpriced he is almost a lock in the right role for me.

Avoid a 220k forward who can average 85 if you want.

Wells Simpkin combo looking real good right now
