How to Buy Cards

Every new user will be given 100 gold. To buy a pack of 3 cards, it will cost 20 gold per pack.

Types of Cards

Cards are categorised into 4 different tiers of cards. There are bronze, silver, gold and platinum cards.

I have created a program that will spit out a pack based on these probabilities;

66% chance of a bronze tier card,
23.5% chance of a silver tier card,
8.5% chance of a gold tier card,
2% chance of a platinum tier card.

There are also special cards within these tiers.

These include non-player cards, which at the moment are as follows;

A Captain Card, which doubles the score of a chosen player,
An Extra Player card, which allows for a user to play an extra player of their choice that week,
An All Out Attack card, which allows for users to play one less defender and play an extra forward or midfielder of their choice and finally,
A Home Ground Advantage card, which allows users to gain 20 points.
A Deliberate OoB card, which allows the user to select an opponent to lose 20 points prior to the weeks starting.

These cards are all “consumables” which means they are one time use only, however they may be the difference between winning a week and falling outside the top few.

There are also special edition cards, which can be of any player. These cards will feature a current player, but will have the included bonus of +5 to +10 points every week when playing them.

For example, a special edition Lance Franklin would look like this;
Lance Franklin (+5), where the +5 represents the special addition.

When a user plays this card, they get Lance Franklins score, plus 5 points. This is a permanent feature of this rare card.
Player cards of any tier or special edition are permanently the users to use each week, unless otherwise stated.

In the case of captaining a card with +5 or +10 attached, the +5 will be included first to the players score, and then doubled.

Example:

Kerridge scores 95. You have kerridge +5 as captain. (95+5)*2 = 200. NOT 95*2 +5 = 195.

Scoring System and Rewards (how to earn gold)

Each week, users will name their team in the appropriate thread. They will have to name;

2 defenders,
3 midfielders,
1 ruckman and
2 forwards.

and also 1 emergency of each position, if you have the cards to do so.

These players will score points based on the DT (Dreamteam) scoring system.

You cannot name the same card multiple times, even if you have more than one copy of it.

Note* 2 different users are able to have the same cards, so eventually collecting duplicates will be key.

If a user wishes to use a “consumable” card, such as a Captain Card, they must state it when posting their team and also name their captain (or in other cases, extra player). Normally, we will not be playing with captains unless you have the appropriate "consumable" card as stated above.

The top scoring teams each week win gold, depending on their placement.

1st place will earn 100 gold,
2nd place will earn 80 gold,
3rd place will earn 70 gold,
4th place will earn 60 gold,
5th place will earn 50 gold,
6th-10th will earn 40 gold for participation (yay everyone is a winner!)

These numbers are subject to change depending on how many sign up to play.

Auction House

Once a week, a card will go up for sale for all users to bid on. At a random time on Thursday, the auction will end and the card will go to the user with the highest bid. There will also be a “Buy it now” option for users to purchase the card immediately and stop the auction process.

The reason for a random time is to stop people “sniping” the auction at the last minute and causing chaos, and to also ensure that the winner of the auction can use their card in the upcoming week (this may not always be possible, but I will try to make it so).

Basically, if you want the card, bid on it. :)

Trading in cards to upgrade them

Users may trade in their unwanted cards to upgrade to a random card of the higher tier with varying rates.

Trading in 5 bronze tier cards will get you 1 silver tier card.
Trading in 6 silver tier cards will get you 1 gold tier card.
Trading in 7 gold tier cards will get you 1 platinum tier card.
For example, 5 bronze cards may be traded in to get 1 silver card at random.

To do this, the user must PM me with the cards they wish to trade in and I will announce the results in the appropriate thread.

A player that trades in 7 gold tier cards to get 1 random platinum tier card, will always get a player that is not ruled out for the rest of the season.

Duplicate Cards

Collecting the same card is actually an advantage. 3 of the same card can be traded in to get a special edition of that card and a +5 bonus on it permanently.
For example, trading in 3 Marley Williams cards will get you a Special Edition Marley Williams (+5) card.
PM to confirm once you have 3 of the same card.

Once you have a player card +5, you may trade in 2 more of that player to create a +10 card!

3 HGA cards being traded in to form "Finals Home Ground Advantage" which would be worth +40 instead of +20 to the weekly score.

Selling Cards for Gold

Finally, cards can be sold back for some gold. Different tiers have different rates. The rates vary with % chance so at the moment the rates are as follows;

1 Bronze tier card = 3 gold (first month only, then will be 2 gold)
1 Silver Tier card = 5 Gold
1 Gold Tier Card = 12 Gold
1 Platinum Tier Card = 50 Gold

Note* Essendon players who are banned for a year should probably be sold. No top-up players have been included in the set due to limited clarity.

823 different players and 40 "consumable" cards - 10 of each of the 4 listed! :)

does this comp go for one year or is it ongoing?

if ongoing to players tiers get elevated at certain times?

got a feeling my Silver Brad Crouch card is actually a Premium card.

Great questions!

At this stage I can only plan for this comp to go on for this season as I will be unsure if I have the time to do it next year. If nothing changes with my work/uni life, I would like to continue this onwards to next year.

Because of the uncertainty, I will work out a fair price to "buy back" all the cards and give everyone large sums of gold in return at the end of the season.

Think of this as a trial season, if I were to do it again the following year, I would change some things and put in plan a place for a longer term game instead of a season long game. (So in the future the cards would carry over to the next year and the tiers would indeed change)

Are players permitted to trade cards with each other?

Another good question!

In this version, no. In future versions, will strongly consider it!

A prize for a week may well be the ability to have your own card go up for auction though... who knows!  ;)

Holz

how does the calculation work is there say 3 Marc Murphy's out there or does it generate say gold then generate a random gold player.

so theoretically could there be like 50 Marc Murphy's?

so

8.5% Gold Player times 1/132 Gold Players = 0.0644% of Marc Murphy?

Also All Out attack is a gold card.

What is Captain, Extra Player and HGA?

There could be an infinite amount of Marc Murphy's or any other player.

An Extra Player card, which allows for a user to play an extra player of their choice that week,
An All Out Attack card, which allows for users to play one less defender and play an extra forward or midfielder of their choice and finally,
A Home Ground Advantage card, which allows users to gain 20 points.

So Captain is the same as every comp.
Extra player means you can play 9 players instead of 8 for that week. Just need to name an extra one in any position you like.
HGA is just a simple +20

GoLions

I think Holz is asking if they are also Gold or not
