Goddard is soft and plays outside, Merrett could potentially be number one mid and he will really struggle, Zaha has talent but he's very underwhelming, Cooney is old and past it, Simpkin is good but will have no Hawks mids to feed him ball and Kelly will play in defence imo

Goddard soft and plays outside? That's a misconception.
He's was #2 for contested possessions and clearances, only behind Heppell in both areas.

They are no top midfield group but they will still win plenty of ball and clearances

Yeah soft and plays outside. Averaged 8.5 contested and 17.5 uncontested possessions last year. Sorry mate but you're wrong. Yes he may have been second but that was considering Watson and Myers (their two biggest and best in and under players) were injured all year. He is soft.
Plus if you rate 3.3 clearances a game as good then go for it. I certainly don't.

He plays a role sometimes that is uncontested by design. Playing across half back and half forward, what do you expect?
When he plays in the middle (which he will be this year) he's not soft at all

Rookie priced players, a few top up players, Z Merrett and Bird. They are the only ones worth considering imo.

LOL, love comments like this.

Yes, lets judge players softness on their UP, I'm guessing you think Hodge is pretty soft with only 8.2 CP and 18 UP.

Cmon mate, there are so many players in the competition you could call soft before Goddard....Gaff, Hill, Hill, Sidey...i mean if we are using your very accurate method of judging it on their UP count.

There is a reason why he plays this "soft" style of football you call it as he has he best disposal by foot in their team. Many teams use these players off half back/attacking side of wing to break defensive zones such as Smith, Gibbs, Rich, Sidebottom, Hodge, Dal Santo, Lids just to name a few. I would rather take these players then some CP players that just grab the ball and slam it on the boot without looking which ends up in the arms of you guessed it... the blokes named previously!

Hahaha the reason I say he's soft is the fact he has a terrible mentality on field, always looking to brandish his own players, name calling, sooking with the umpire, and when you watch him he looks scared to go back with the flight or get his hands dirty.

Yes he's a good player but I think he's soft, doesn't have to be the correct opinion though LOL

Edit: You know what I love? You say you love 'comments like these' but I love the fact that Essendon have nobody else to name their captain apart from floggard hahahahah

dottman

I don't think there's any established AFL player's that are soft.

James Polkinghorne is a chance to get signed, and considering he didnt play last year (delisted 2014 I think) he should be cheap

Yes but this bloke "_wato" posted on an internet Supercoach forum that he's soft so it must be true!
