I don't really consider region although funny enough, it plays apart in who I consider our rivals for the most part :P.

I usually go for the team/s that there is a bit of back and forth record as well as you enjoy the banter with them. It helps the rivalry when you guess can joke and take jabs at each other's teams and keep it fun :D.
I considered PNL then i thought whats the fun in watching Dublin win easily in the rivalry round, probably should pick a team that has a small chance of winning.
If only these worked on us at PNL, we aren't like the Dublin chokers ;).

Curious to know what line of thinking coaches are going with in terms of nominating rivals?

Are you basing it off regions? Eg/ Europe teams rival eachother, American teams rival etc

Or are you looking to rival teams of similar stature in the league currently? Eg teams you expect to be fighting for ladder spots against?

Or a little of column A and a little from column B?

Interaction between coaches is the main one for me. A good debate or humorous/respectful banter is what this game is all about.
Past results also  naturally create a rivalry.

Christchurch and Rio will have a rivalry because of the redraft but I think there's another couple of teams that banter and results has created a nice rivalry already. Like the couple of teams who got crushed in WXV and Champs League finals. One who handed us our first loss but got slaughtered two weeks in a row when it was time to choke.

2 Final Appearances 1 flag, not too unhappy with a 50% strike rate.
