It is my opinion this season will be the best AFL season EVER.

The reason I hold this view is because of the maturation of the expansion team's lists and I can make a legitimate case for about 14 sides with a chance of making the 8. Obviously 14 teams cannot squeeze into 8 spots. This should lead to a fiercely competitive and exciting 2016 AFL premiership season. I am a biased eagles supporter but I don't have them as certainties to be top 4. I apologise to saint's blue's demon's and lion's supporters your teams have no hope.

What does this mean for supercoach?

I see more mature lists and less opportunity for rookie priced players especially from the beginning of the season when lists are healthier and team belief in their finishing positions is high. For example there is no spot in the Eagles or Hawks lineups for rookies and I would suggest this extends to many teams out of the 14 possible finalists.

How do we generate cash??? (And generate it quickly)

We have 3 mid bench spots to fill that we usually use to make the most money but I suggest this will be harder than in years gone by. We all just say rookies are placeholders and just wait for preseason games but how about we look into our crystal balls and suggest rookies that are legit hopes of CONSISTENT CASH GENERATING minutes? I would also like to know which teams out of the 14 potential top 8 sides actually have places for starting the season with rookies?

Ringo

That is why you look at rookies in lower placed teams as the rookies get games and generate cash quickly eg Jaden McGrath at Brisbane had made some cash before injury. Harris Andrews was a nice rookie pick as well.  from memory he made $200k before I traded him.

Do not disagree with what you are saying with rookies in Tops teams but saying keep an eye on the low teams as well as they give you a good chance of gaining cash.  Bulldogs last year also had a couple of nice cash generation rookies.

If kids/rookies are good enough they will play. Strong teams may not look like they have spots but higher quality kids will force out others, and there is always LTIs.

Look at Sydney and how many kids they play, or Freo giving Alex Pearce a good run, or WCE with Sheed.

With Bird and Jetta gone then someone like Mills will get a run at Sydney

Richmond are looking to a few mature agers to fill gaps (Marcon and Broad)

Essendon and Carlton have new coaches so anything can happen there

The rest will become more apparent come preseason, but we will have rookies. If kids are good enough they will force other out and teams will always have injuries, it's just the way it works.

eaglesman

I understand that.... That is the basics .... But I don't see 5 rookies starting from those bottom 4 sides so need to look elsewhere

I will not accept your suggestions of sheed and Pearce. They were not likely or reliable sources of cash generators from round 1.

You suggest Richmond. I suggest Richmond believe they r contenders and have only strengthened their list over trade period. I can't see consistent spot for any rookie.

Blues have kerridge sure ... But Essendon although been through horrid times their list is still strong ... Only parish a chance imo n that's still just a chance but even he isn't going to make quick cash

this thread fails to mention one thing

INJURIES

eaglesman

Injuries happen yes .... There would need to be multiple LTI for each top 14 team prior to the closure of round 1 total lockout when we have all picked our starting teams imo to open up rookie spots that would even start to make me feel comfortable. That won't happen.

Man we get concerned about rookies every year around this time but they always get named round 1

and you say Parish is the only one from Essendon that will get a go is wrong Brown and Tippa are very strong chances as are Kommer and McKenna

You're stressing way too early man. Rookies always get chances, its just the way footy works. You'll look at WCE's best 22 right now and not see any opportunities but i can guarantee your best 22 will not be available come round one. Nearly every team will be in the same boat.

Just pick the most obvious ones now and wait for the Oxley's of last year to come up during NAB.

eaglesman

I know it's like this every year.

But for reasons I have already outlined I feel pickings will be slimmer.

If there are no injuries .... Show me some likely rookies

Stopped reading after your second paragraph.

Every team aside from Carlton is a hope.

After all we just preparing .... Most of us could pick a team 5 min before lockout easily enough ... But rookie prep and selection are the most critical things for a top 50 ranking sc team

Everyone is in the same boat if there are not enough cheap rookies for field and bench positions then it's downgrade some more expensive players and spend on the more expensive rookies who are playing but you can't afford to have half of your rookies not playing and hoping that they will .
