Its so obvious Buckley played him behind the ball to protect his ribs. I don't think he is stupid enough to actually believe they gained a tactical advantage by him playing in defence. I cant believe he expected the football world to swallow it either so it was no surprise to hear the sore ribs whisper. Thankfully it looks like he has recovered and we wont see anymore of this playing in the backline nonsense.

if this was a coach who had a proper training as an assistant or head coach in the 2s i would agree but given its Buckley it wouldnt surprised me if that was the reason.

I have not heard anyone from the Pies confirm he had sore ribs where did that come from? only heard Nick Maxwell say I think after round 1 that he did not know if his ribs were sore but he was in the backline to add some experience an area the Pies thought they had a weakness , anyway it did not help them and he is back in the mids only Buckley and Pendles know the reason the rest of us are guessing

I'm gonna take a stab and say he had sore ribs.

Buckley is never going to declare that the reason he is playing in defence is because he has a rib injury. This talk of experience in the backline was a smokescreen. Any idiot could see Collingwood was disadvantaged by it. Ofcourse I'm reading between the lines but you have to in circumstances like this because the club is never going to be honest about it and nor should they.

every body knew he had a rib injury, saying its tactical is a dangerous game when loads of people think your incompetent.

you say he is injured and resting down back makes alot more sense then saying tactical reasons where your peforming badly and possibly in with a chance of losing your jobs. Its not like people didnt know about the ribs and then would then target them.

Yeah see I'm with Holz on this, I'm not getting excited over Pendles until he plays in the guts again this week. If he does, almost certainly I'll bring him in next week. But as yet, he has one big score for the year, and it was in a marquee match against a weak team. There's plenty of players who have good history, but for one reason or another they drop off. Anyone picking Stevie J this year? I know that's a meaningless comparison but until he is back in the middle regularly, there's no reason to think his scores will advance on the first 4 games. One more week at least for me.

He's doing far better than JPK, which is quite sad in my opinion given he's played in defence quite a bit. He's SC royalty, anyone doubting that need only compare his (overall) scores over the past 6-7 years which are second to none. GAJ has averaged more, though has missed far more games.

Agree, he is one of those players you never have to worry about week in week out. I can't think of any other player that is as set and forget as Pendles (other than Goldy). For example:

- Parker is great but he burnt me twice last year and you always worry he is going to injur himself the way he plays
- Selwood has been inconsistent last few years
- Fyfe, now injury prone
- Ablett, injuries taking their toll maybe?
- Danger, pumps out the big scores, but can also produce some stinkers
- Hanners, really stepping up, but can he sustain it as long as Pendles and he has to share points with so many high scoring mids
- Priddis, can also produce some stinkers and injuries starting to creep into his game

So do we think Pendles is back and over his rib issue or did he just tell bucks to get stuffed and that he's playing in the middle for the ANZAC Day match?
