Anyone else considering Jake Stringer @ $425k

4th year, doggies on the rise, no Crameri, SC average has gone 46-69-78... kick 3 goals in last week's intraclub... 2015 All-Australian

Guys an absolute gun and future brownlow medal winner imo, as much as I'd like to include him, I'd like to see how much midfield time he actually gets when the doggies midfield are at full health.  Dahl, Picken, Macrae, Hunter, Bont, Wallis & with Libba back they can afford to keep him in the fwd line kicking snaggers.  Have heard his tank is better this season too though.

Stringer is a talent no doubt but has no history of scoring well in SC... needs to put the runs on the board first.
Hopeful picks don't work out too well usually.

HotTiges

Massive NAB would have me interested with Stringer..

Most breakouts don't have any runs on the board either, just saying

Will be watching very closely in NAB. I'm much more optimistic about Stringer as opposed to a Buddy (and $50k cheaper)

Anyone thinking about Montagna? Or is everyone worried about is age ( wont be far off 33 at the end of the year)

Last season was the first in 10 years he missed more than 2 games. His injury was a knee complaint which is less concerning than Deledios ongoing Achilles problem

No crameri hinders him rather than helps him. Means he is forced to stay forward more

Saints wanted to play him off of HB more last year but injuries kept him in the middle, if this happens he should drop a bit.

I've had Lids locked from day 1, but am now starting to wonder if I should not start him and hope he drops in cash and turns into an upgrade target

When guys like Hoff, Wingard, Gunston etc are nearly 100k cheaper and Lids is a risk of missing the odd game here and there I'm just wondering if we could get away with not starting him

As long as he doesnt come out and go 110+ we'd be fine, but he does have the ability to do that which puts me behind if I dont start

Hmmmm

If Lids missed 3-4 games but averaged 110 I would take that. The problem is if he misses those 3-4 games in one hit like last year.
Its pretty hard to sit 550k+ on the bench for a month and with an achilles a 2-3 week injury can turn into 5

Seems like most people are starting 3 prem forwards? I've got 4, but I'm going weak down back instead

Lids, Dusty, Barlow and Buddy at the moment.

Agree with wato - if you want a POD get a proven POD in the mids like Gray, JPK etc etc

I'm not rolling the dice on all these dubious prem forwards getting thrown around as suggestions

I've pretty much had this set up since day one, but I'm going almost bargain basement down back

Bartel, Smith, two mid pricers, rookies in defense
Lids, Barlow, Gunston, Robbo, Wells/Anderson, Simpkin, Kommer, Petracca

Kerridge is my DPP in the mids so it looks like this temporarily while I figure out what to do with my cash

Pendles, Gaz, Rockliff, Parker, Libba, Hartung, Crouch, Kerridge, Polkinghorne, Cuningham, Marcon

My forward line and mids looked like this with about 100k+ in the bank

Pendles, Gaz, Rockliff, Parker, Libba, Crouch, Simpkin, Kerridge, Polkinghorne, Fiorini, Marcon

Lids, Barlow, Gunston, Robbo, Anderson, Lamb, Kommer, Petracca

Brett Deledio will not play the first two pre-season matches but is expected to play in the third NAB Challenge game as the club manages his persistent Achilles problems.
"With the limited preparation we have [with Deledio] it's always going to be a management issue from years previous," Hardwick said.

I already knew this but seeing it in writing makes me really doubt my Lids pick, if he could go 18 games @110 I would be happy but if that drops to something like 105 from 16 it could start to hurt

Might go, Lids + Emac + Crouch ->Buddy + Rookie + Fyfe/Danger

he is a good pick but Martin i reckon will match him with less injury risk and cheaper.

Buddy is underpriced and should go big

barlow also underpriced.

have these 3 ahead of him and i think 3 premos is enough.

going pricey in the mids, can pick up Slaoen for 570k so seems silly to get lids over that.
Love lids, but this is exactly where I ended up.     with bird and wells as value midpricers and stepping stones.

Also allowed me to go Fyfe, pendles, gaj and rocky as first four mids

One fwd I have not considered for a second, although he seems to be very popular here is Dahl

Averaged 91 in 14 and then went to 104 when Libba was out. At his price, I reckon he is max value and won't go higher, but I expect him to drop back to mid to high 90s with Libba back

As for Lids, for me It's probably more the fact that guys that are 100k cheaper can still be keepers. Depends if I can use that 100k effectively, but I am a little concerned about Lids durability this year

Yes he might miss 3-4 and average 110 but those 3-4 games he is out and I have to field a rookie who scores 60-70 I'm losing 40-50 points a game, so even if a 100K cheaper player averages 10ppg less I'm still ahead and not copping big drops

I think the dogs first 7 at Etihad has a lot to do with his popularity

Speculative picks are so hard to nail! I ran with Neale last year and was ultimately disappointed with his 105ish that I was stuck with for the year. For Buddy to be a success all he has to do is stay fit. He's averaged 90+ for 8 of the last 9 years, 105+ in 3 of them. If he plays 20 games at 95-100, or even 18 games at 105-110 - i'll be happy.
Stringer on the other hand needs to not only stay fit, but  improve his output across the season by at least 15 points. He only went 100+ on three occasions last year and the dogs made finals. Can he raise his figures by that 20%? Will the return of Libba help or hinder him?

Of the possible 10-15 'breakout' candidates this year, realistically only one or two will be successful picks, even if they do increase their scoring somewhat.
How confident are you that Stringer will be that guy?
