Profile:

2015 was a breakout year for Armitage, lifting his average by 16ppg, and in the space of basically a month, almost becoming a must have player in everyones midfield. With only two scores under 100 up until his bye, and following it with scores of 104 and 159, Armitage had positioned himself for a top 5 overall finish in SC, and didn't look like slowing down. However, he did drop off after that, with 4 games under 100 in the next 9 weeks, only the one game over 110, and missing R21, hurting many once happy owners right when it counted.

Armitage managed to poll 12 votes in the Brownlow last season, and finished 2nd in the Saints' Best and Fairest, just behind Jack Steven.

Pros:

With a bit more consistency, could go huge

Potential captain option

Gets quite a few tackles

Saints on the up

Cons:

Last year was his first good year in SC, no guarantee of repeating it

Very disappointing 2nd half of year

Prediction:

The fact that he's only had one great year SC-wise, and his 2nd half of last year makes me think that Armitage might drop off a bit in 2016. Only averaged 98 after round 14, which doesn't even cut it as an M8. For me, he's a wait-and-see in 2016. My guess would be an average around the 105 mark, but if he gets rid of some of those really poor games, could easily go 110+ with some of the big scores he can produce. If he has a slow start to the year, could definitely be one to jump on early as a bit of a risk, but with all the value in the mids early on I wouldn't be starting him. Could make for a great pick in SC Draft though.

Nice write up.

Starting him is too big a risk. As you mentioned he has only ever had 1 good year and with the value and other proven premo's around that price picking him is a small reward vs big risk

He is at the age that you expect him to continue on from it and def worth keeping an eye on how he plays and if teams put a little more work into im this year.

I might look at starting with him and Steven in DT since the Saints play a high possession game and both these boys rack up the pill, but I am not sure with SC. I'll 100% look at him in my draft team but probably pass in terms of regular.

Peter

You would be very "brave" to pick him from the start in SC imo

3 scores of 100+, only the one over 105. Massive drop off this year.
