Man defence really is ruining my Sunday  :o

I'm now playing around with 4 premiums, a bit against the grain, but means I'm not relying on 3-4 rookies or mid-price gambles.

Unfortunately that rules out Shaw and Boyd due to the cost, but Houli, Laird, Simpson and Bartel looks fairly handy

4 keepers so no dramas, the only question is how will you squeeze in McVeigh, Shaw & Boyd?

Have to miss out on one I suppose! I'm trying to work out a way to fit Shaw/Boyd in, but it's not easy

Has anyone got the evidence to show me that Matty Boyd is going to be rested this season?

I have no doubt in my mind he is a better pick than Bartel and will definitely score more.

The coach has said Bartel will miss games and the general thought is so will Boyd?

Boyd is in my side and he would have been in my side earlier had I been able to afford him. To make him a worthy pick over Bartel he probably has to average 12-15 more points than him and I for one reckon he will do that. I also think he will match shaw in averages.

I just want the evidence to support the general consensus he will be rested from games?

Based largely on whats happened in previous seasons - been rested for 2-3 games a year even with the bye rounds mid-season.

Its not like his body is going to cope better with the rigours of AFL as he turns 34 this season. If the Bulldogs make finals again they'll want him prime for September too!

Missed 4 games last year, 3 of them listed as "soreness" and 3 out of the 4 were games in Tasmania, Perth and Brisbane.

However just looking at the Dogs draw in further detail, as we know they play their first 7 at Eithad (first 8 in Melbourne), don't have to travel to Qld or Tasmania. Their only trip to Perth is the final round which he will definitely miss if they are going to play finals but you should hopefully have sufficient cover by then.

As Ele said though, his aging body is still a concern

If you're going for overall and want Boyd, it's best to start him and get the early points (I will, anyway). Bringing him in halfway through the season will mean a higher % of games missed in all likelihood. If it's only league you're concerned about, he's a pretty expensive option when it comes to likely finals performances.

have I finally gone too far
Heater, Smith, Emac, Hartley, Brown, Tippa, (Broad, Adams)
leaves 3 rooks on field from the get go

I have something almost the same (Yeo instead of Smith). It allows me to have a mid field of Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, GAJ, Jelwood, Rocky, Libba, Crouch, which is so ridiculous I don't think I leave it haha

RaisyDaisy

I'm running with 3 rooks on field too

Hopefully they all get named

Is there any love for Jeremy McGovern?

I currently have Shaw, McGovern and Brodie Smith as my experienced defenders

Settling for Houli, Bartel and Lonergan*

I think there is enough JS in Dea, Weith and M.Brown to go light in D and Stack M / R and F.

Hoggyz_a_legend

I'm a bit stumped on who to choose as my D2 or D3. I currently have Shaw D1 and Laird D2. I have enough to get Boyd as my D2, but I'm concerned about him getting rested.

I don't particularly want Bartel for the same reason.

McDonald scored like a super premium pre bye when he was playing in defence, but post bye he played almost exclusively as a forward and his scoring suffered.

Houli is my current selection, but I just want people's thoughts on having Boyd from rnd 1 to capitalise on his likely higher output...
