Simmo has been my first picked defender for years now

Always start him

Marstar

I think starting Simpson is playing it to safe and won't be better than D6 by season end.

Would be more confident to pick him as a "safe" upgrade round 8ish to steady the ship if I'm struggling or set the pace if I'm cruising.

Holz

going super cheap in the backline

Birchall bartel for some safety then Eski punt with 5 of

Broad Hibberd Brown Brown Francis Bryne Hartley wagner

will make up for it in the midfield

including captain im planning on 960 a week from them and 230 from my rucks.

so just need 810 from my other 12 players to get to 2000.

I'm confident Simpson will get back to a 95+ average under Bolton, throw in his durability and I'm keen to start with him.

There were plenty of games last year where he was playing way too deep in defence, which I'm counting on not happening this year.

Yeah I've decided to go cheap there as well.

Bartel at D1 with Malceski at D4 then rookies.

sammy123

simmo alway a great pick

RaisyDaisy

Currently going with Simmo, Bartel, Smith, MacKenzie and rookies

Simmo and Bartel are locked - Smith could be changed depending on where he plays during NAB

I'm not buying into the whole plenty of rookies available in the backline groupthink. I think it's wishful thinking tbh.

So with that in mind I'm planning on starting 5 players that I think will be keepers as there aren't any midpricers that I'm particularly a fan of. At the moment I'm running with one 500k+, two 450k+ and two 400k+ players then three rookies.

One pick I don't like at all is Malceski. I think he's next to no chance of averaging enough to be a keeper.

A bit contradicting Ben? (Malceski)

NickyBoy

I've gone with KK, Birchall, Smith, Harwood and the rest as rookies. Seriously considering Mackenzie instead.

I agree. It is.

My mind has changed after reading the article below which mentions quite a few things which I was not aware of when I made that statement over a month ago:

I had him in my initial side and have been chopping and changing for the last few weeks. The Suns are an open intra club training match on Saturday. I am thinking about heading down there. It is from 8.00am though.

Either way I won't be going to expensive in defense. If McVeigh has a decent NAB challenge he will be in my side as my biggest spend in defense.

If Malceski returns back to form, would that impact the scoring from KK?

Not just Eski, but I think all the returning mids will impact KK too which is why I am not touching him

He is class, but maybe another year or so before I look to start him

no clue why people are looking at him. He is expensive and has lots of question marks around him.

Eski Yeo are better value and Birchall Simpson bartel are safer options being true premos.

if KK does peform this year then happy to lock him in next year.

People are considering KK because it's scary to think what he might do against your team if you don;'t have him. He's heading into his 3rd season, having played 40 games and averaged 88 in his second year. How many other blokes have done that in defence? He went 100+ on 8 occasions, with 3 over 120. Once he consolidates a bit and Gold Coast stop getting obliterated, he'll get rid of those 40s and 50s which will boost him up a fair bit. He averaged 96.4 over his last 10 as well. People worried about GAJ and the other mids returning need only look at Ablett's best (160+) games on his return from injury, where KK scored a 107 and a 136, averaging 107 over the 3 games.
