I have put together my first team of the year and really want to make the step up into the top 1000 like many on here have achieved.

Defence: J. McVeigh, K. Simpson, J. Bartel, M. Hibberd, R.Harwood, S. Durbin (M. Brown, K. Collins)
Midfield: G. Ablett, J. Selwood, T. Rockliff, T. Liberatore, J. O'Meara, B. Crouch, S. Kerridge, N. Freeman (B. Keays, R. Clarke, M.Hibberd)
Rucks: S. Martin, M. Blicavs (M. King)
Forwards: B. Deledio, D. Martin, H. Bennel, M. Barlow, B. Kennedy, C. Petracca (H. Balic, B. Hardwick)

Cash Remaining: $13,900

I have chosen to go strong in def, ruck and forwards, whilst using a mid price approach in the midfield. O'Meara is in until he is ruled out of round 1.

Any advice would be fantastic  :)

Money Shot

I would comment on this team but it is very good. All I can say is that trading is more important too some degree than the starting team so it's all about being committed throughout the season rather than the start.
Best of luck for 2015.

A lot of nice picks... though I like spending a tad more on my midfield than you have as that's where the points are.
If you're spending more on defence then get Shaw not Simpson and Hibberd. If you're spending more on rucks then I'd get Goldy. If you're comfortable downgrading a couple of your players to make 250k you could get say Sloane for JOM.
Say Sloane scores 110 and JOM rookie/replacement averages 70
There's 40 points in your kick...Simpson to Smith might be worth it for 85k... Lids to Dahl you're getting closer.
Not that Simpson or Lids are bad picks but for bang for your buck you want big guns in the middle and I reckon you're one short and would look at rejigging fwds/ backs like Simpson, Hibberd, Deledio, Barlow to cheaper combinations that could score just as well.
I think with Crouch, Libba, Rockcliff and even Gazza being so cheap we can afford another gun like Pendles, Beams, Sloane... there is still the opportunity to make cash and upgrade well through the mids but by starting one premo mid down you might be off the pace too quickly to make that top 1000.
Good luck.

Gday Hoon, nice team you've put together. A couple of suggestions:

Your defence seems a tad old for my liking. All three of Bartel/Simpson/McVeigh are 30+ which historically means a drop in points. I would ditch at least one of them for a cheaper (younger) bloke who will potentially outscore them anyway, guys like Smith, KK, Yeo etc are all likely to jump up.
The money you save above will help to upgrade one of your mid-priced mids to a keeper. JOM for example isn't looking likely to be right before rd 1 anyway.

Cheers!

Stick to the under 500k rule with the backs.  If you are going over then just one. For me that would be McVeigh.
KK Yeo and Smith all likely improvers again this year.
Rest of team looks great.     Appreciate your thoughts on my team.

I have toyed with my team over the past month and ended up with this team

Def: Laird, Bartel, Sheridan, Weitering, Brown, Hartley (Broad, Collins)
Mid: Fyfe, Dangerfield, Pendles, Ablett, Rockliff, Libba, Mills, B.Kennedy (Gore, Mathieson, Phillips)
Ruck: Goldy, Gawn (King)
For: Martin, Zorko, Barlow, Wells, Menadue, Kerridge (Petracca, A.MT)
Cash Remaining $4,800

Besides rookies I fairly happy with this team, a bit speculative in defense but I think I should make some money, I've decided to use Gawn because I am a dees supporter and havent had a premium demon in my team in a very long time.

Would love to hear some thoughts

Solid lineup, obviosuly see which rookies get named, Petracca may not play early but should get a game, Gore may find it hard to break into the team, I'd go Grimley over King or even keep an eye on Cox (who should play as a tall forward option) as he was impressive. My tip in the forward is to keep an eye on De Goey as he can generate cash if he continues his NAB form.

Hope that helps

hoon1

Thanks mate, rookies are just placeholders at the moment until the NAB cup finishes, I do agree regarding De Goey, issue that that I couldn't fit him in at this stage. Unless he absolutely demands a spot I might leave him out. Obviously a big finish to the NAB cup will make it difficult to leave him out

I think I have found my perfect mix for a team:

Def: Shaw, Laird, Lonergan, Weitering, Dea, Hartley (Collins, Brown)
Mid: Fyfe, Dangerfield, Pendles, Ablett Jnr, Rockliff, Libba, Kennedy, Kerridge (Mathieson, Hibberd, Dunkley)
Ruck: Goldstein, Gawn (Cox)
For: Martin, Barlow, Greene, Wells, Menadue, Petracca (Phillips, AMT)

Cash Remaining = bugger all.

Def: I've loaded up on the 2 prems I am confident with, chosen Lonergan because he should get good midfield minutes until Omeara and Prestia etc come back. Then 2 solid rookies who should play regularly and raise quick cash, and with brown on the bench I have guaranteed cover.

Mid: Loaded up on the big 5 prems who should bring points early, Libba well we know why, Bennedy should get a good opportunity for my dees, and kerridge is a given.

Ruck: 2 set and forget and Cox to possibly provide cover, can be changed to Grimely

For: 2 prems I am confident in, Greene who could average 95-100 if he can get into he midfield rotations, wells is worth the risk,  menadue has looked fantastic considering his price. Petracca may not play round 1 and can be swapped, or I could hold him and use the DPP links to bring kerridge forward and use a mid rookie, or use my hibberd link and play a rookie defender.

Would love to hear what people think of my team, thanks for reading

Love it. It's like I'm looking at my own team.

The only difference is you have Shaw and Weitering while I have Simpson and Bartel. A few of our rookies are different too.

The rest of our premium/keepers/midpricers are exactly the same.

Go Dees.

Edit: Bartel not Birchall
