Hey boys, 4 of the past 5 seasons i've ranked top 1000, haven't yet hit the top 100 though! Let me know what you think of my first attempt:

Peter

With your record, I don't think we can offer advice to you. Only interesting choice is Barlow as seems to be out if favour

GoLions

Not a big fan of Merrett, Grundy, and Greene. Rest looks alright. Won't comment on rookies until we have a better idea of who should line up round 1, although I will say that you should drop Paine for someone else :P

Barlow is out of favour? when did that happen ?  :P

Defenders are too risky in my opinion, All 5 could end up top 15 but none will be top 6 which would mean you would miss out on point or have to sideways a couple to full premo defenders

Title of thread is misleading - it's what you do throughout the year that results in you finishing top 100, not your starting lineup.

Nail your rookies and you could go anywhere. But as stated, defenders are risky (KK, Hurn, Hibberd, Yeo), mids are good but I suggest you may need more $$ for rookies, Grundy at $488k is too expensive for his output, and you need one of either Zerrett/Greene, not both. Good start though.

MC

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree with you Wato in that I should have only one of Merrett/Greene, both is a risk I don't need to take.
To justify some of my selections:

Barlow: As a forward he picks himself. Capable of 110+ but more likely to hit 100, which i'll take every day of the week.
Grundy: As i'm not willing to spend 600k+ on Martin or Goldy I have to find value elsewhere. With Grundy entering his 4th season both he and the team should improve, adding 5-10 points to his scores (hopefully!)
Greene: Have a look at his end to 2014, i'm hoping he goes near that in the absence of Treloar. GWS will push for finals this year also.
Hurn & Yeo: Both to be freed up with the return of Brown and Mackenzie. Yeo to play wing/mids as he did earlier on in 2015 and Hurn to rebound, returning to his 85-90 averages of the past 6 seasons.
Hibberd Risky pick that could pay off, previous 2 seasons went 90-95 so i'm hoping he bounces back.
Wells Too cheap to ignore, though will be ditched if there are niggles throughout the pre-season.

crowls

Only suggestion I can see is consider a downgrade of Hurn or Hibberb to rookie and upgrade Grundy to a premo ruck option like sauce or martin or nicnat.  5 mid price backs is huge risk when best rookie backs will probably average same over the year and generate cash.

MC

Hey guys, been adjusting this team every damn day, can't seem to get it right! Let me know what you think:

- 86k spare
- I popped a few more expensive rookies in the mids so i'm not short of cash come rd1.
- Not sold on NN, considering Martin at 40k more.
- De Goey could go nuts this year, but if I need cash he's the man to go.
- Very scared re: Ablett and Rocky given they haven't played pre-season games. (Beams + JPK probably first in line as replacements)
- I've chosen Houli and Laird because they seem fairly 'safe' bets for 90+
- Yeo hasn't excited me and may be dropped for Bartel/Birchall

No Libba but no doubt you have your reasons.

Apart from that nice Team and nice structure.  Do not think Beams will be playing Rd 1 nothing 100% certain but still to train with main group.

Cheers Ringo. Yeah i've got my doubts about Libba/Crouch being what everyone hopes they'll be. In order for them to be good cash cows, they need to score at close to keeper-level (105ish) anyway, rendering them as likely M8 traps for the season.

Alistair Lynch said on the Fox Footy coverage of the Brisbane v GWS game that he has a problem with his knee and could miss up to the first month of the season.

Anyway I like the side MC.

I would like to know your reasons for not selecting Dusty?

Also do you think De Goey is going to be a forward keeper? If not you would be better suited in dropping him to a rookie, for example Kennedy from Melbourne and using the cash to upgrade one of your bench midfield rookies to one of Libba or Crouch.

If none of Libba, Crouch or De Goey are going to be keepers then IMO you should select the one who is going to make the most cash to be able to upgrade to a gun premo (Fyfe I am guessing would be an upgrade priority as he is not in your side)

IMO this would probably be Libba > Crouch > De Goey but all have been in my side at one stage or another.

Unsubbed, DeGoey averaged 70-odd last year, and i'm backing him to jump to 85-90. At 300k that's keeper level for me at either F6, or as cover for mid/fwd once the team is complete. \

Over the NAB he's averaged 91.5 from 79% TOG which is a decent start :)

Libba I think will start slowly, at around 85 first half, before jumping to 105-ish for the 2nd half, season avg around 95 imo, which isn't good enough for me as a mid-only.

Dusty i've had in and out, finally removing him once all of the news re: his dad etc surfaced. He's priced at his career-best average of 105 and I can't see where improvement could come from. He's prone to some stinkers as well (51, 51, 58, 68, 70 last season) which means he'll likely drop value for me to bring him in as an upgrade.

I like that new team. I'd probably swap Westoff for a more midfield player like Dusty or Dahlhaus personally. I've got De Goey in my first draft team too - http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,106132.0.html
