To have links between the lines has always been a must have structural part of my team.    Is it really worth the effort until last third of the season.  Once the injuries and resting of players kicks in it becomes vital in getting a full team on the ground.

Secondly  is SC a DPP game  except for mids and rucks. It seems to me that all top scoring fwds and def tend to be dpp players.

not that concerning for me at the start but handy heading towards the finals with limited trades

I have always liked the thought of having plenty of DPP links, and I do tend to look for them from the start but you're right, we tend to have plenty up front and down back and it's difficult to get any in the middle as all the premium MIDS are non-DPP. It's definitely worthwhile to try and get some in place for later on though as KB has already pointed out.

My DPP links are usually formed by rookies who are playing in the latter stages of the season. Mid/Fwd and Mid/Def I try to have at least 1 of each. I also snap up some bargains once my team is set as well, specifically with coverage in mind. Motlop last year in rd 11 was priced at 380k or so and proved too hard to refuse. Perfect coverage for mids/fwd

Generally the best forwards and defenders have MID DPP anyway, so I don't really worry about it too much. As MC just said, in the latter half of the year you might bring in a super cheap MID/FWD and MID/DEF into your midfield so that you can rotate them with your defenders and forwards when necessary.

Looking at this year there a lot of M/F DPP and lesser number D/M DPP. Looking at the lists there are very few you would consider starting as a mid only but would be amongst first picked for the forward or defence line.
So basically it is a matter of personal preference whether you wish to have DPP from the start or later in the year.  Personally I think unless a rookie with a DPP is worthy of selection at start wait until later in the year to set up.  In saying that I will probably start with Kerridge if selected and showing form for Blues in preseason in mids giving me the M/F DPP
