Team Name: Trivial

Cash Left: 23,400

DEF: Shaw, Mcveigh, Kolodjashnij, Birchall, Smith, Byrne
        Wagner, Brown
MID: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, Anderson, Trengove, Gresham
         Freeman, Mathieson, Marcon
RUC: Martin, Leuenberger
         Cox
FWD: Deledio, Barlow, Greene, Wells, Kennedy, Petracca
         Kerridge, Ahearn

Not gonna comment on any rookies as they will all be subject to the preseason and who is selected round 1.

Ill also say i'm not a huge believer in mid prices, unless a) they're gonna make at least 200k or b) they will remain in my side all year producing solid scores. i take the philosophy that you lock in the best players as early as possible in hope that they will be in top 6 scorers in their given position at the end of the season.

DEF:
Shaw lock. Mcveigh lock. KK in third year now, had a good second half of last year, should be top 8 defender this year for sure. Birchall is intriguing, i reckon he's in for a good year and he's a potential POD. Smith, heres to hoping he returns to 2013 form.

MID:
Fyfe lock. Pendles lock. Ablett lock. Rockliff at that price, lock. Libba if plays and shows positive signs in preseason, lock. Anderson should play this year and we all saw what he could do when given a full game in the preseason last year and with the abolishment of the sub this bloke could be a gem.

RUC:
Martin does a lot around the ground which helps him score well, should definitely be top 3 ruckman this year. Berger is too juicy to pass up on that price, especially being a tap ruckman could do very well and help me get Goldstein down the track.

FWD:
Lids averaged over 100 since 2007, lock. Barlow was told by ross lyon he was played out of position all of last year, will see more time in the guts this year and should easily average 100+. Greene is another intriguing pick, with Treloar gone will see increased mid time and should be able to replicate 2013 form. Wells is in purely for price increase potential and COULD average 85+ if he's on the park.

Birchall will be a POD for sure, but I feel a negative one. There are many better choices for his price.

Stefan Martin and Goldy share the same bye round, keen to know if that changes your mind? Will you perhaps hold Leuenberger until after their bye round? Also, ruck cover in the forward line could be a good idea. I am using very cheap cover in Vardy from Geelong, under 300k.

Did Ross comment on Barlow playing out of position? Are you able to provide a reference to that interview? I am trying to decide whether or not to pick him but if he is guaranteed more midfield time then he could be a very good selection.

I think you need one more gun mid, or at least a midpricer returning from injury, i.e. Crouch, or JOM if he makes round 1 (talk is he won't), as most teams I have seen are running 6 deep in the midfield (and many 7, including Libba and Crouch). Don't want you starting a gun mid behind everyone else.

Other than those few things, I really like your team.

Great first team nmfc.

Agree with much of your reasoning.  KK can definitely continue to improve and with GCS mids back can be the rebounding defender.   People thing Malceski will do this.  More likely to be KK.
Birchall is good though question his SC relevance compare to other options like yeo.

Mids"  Anderson is a POD but you have justified his selection so hope it works for you.  rest looks good got 4 of top 5 mids already.

Rucks:  Up to luey to stay on park and valid strategy
Fwds.   Love Lids Barlow and Greene.    Wells burnt me last year though if he gets on the park this year is great value.

interesting point about Barlow playing more mid time.  Also Bennell to fit in as well.    Had discussion with rico on other post of benefit of playing Fyfe 60/40 from CHF to provide pivot and target and increasing scoring potential for Freo.   Maybe Ross is also considering it if Barlow is to play more time in mids.

It may seem farfetched but my uncle's best mate is Barlow's dad and apparently after the finals loss last year he said something to every player and all he said to Barlow was "i'm sorry for playing you out of position all year." So one would assume he's going to play a lot more mid minutes which should boost his average for sure.

Yeah I understand completely you reasoning, i just think ill lock up my defence early with the lack of rookies in that position atm. Obviously it could turn out to be the best position for rookies but almost every year its the midfield that provides the best rookies. Yeah i'm not sold on JOM yet, he's coming back from a serious injury and its unlikely they'll want to rush him back even i he's ready for round 1. Crouch is someone ill look at in NAB.

Been fiddling with it today and came up with something similar with only some minor changes.

Cash Left: $3,800

DEF: Shaw, Mcveigh, Kolodjashnij, Docherty, Smith, Whitecross
        Hipwood, Byrne
MID: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, Anderson, Trengove, Gresham
         Freeman, Mathieson, Marcon
RUC: Martin, Leuenberger
         Cox
FWD: Deledio, Barlow, Greene, Wells, Kerridge, Petracca
         Brown, Kommer

It's really similar to previous team, just has better links between positions through DPP. Also i really like the Docherty pick had a great year last year and is only getting better.

All opinions and feedback much appreciated.

It's completely up to you whether or not you heed my advice and not everyone would, but...

I personally go one deeper in the midfield, at the expense of a defender.

Kolodjashnij or Docherty to a rookie and then Anderson to either Crouch, or a proper premium player if you can afford.

Money Shot

I would find a way to go Anderson or a rookie to Crouch.
Good looking team though!
