Gonna be hard to not start Libba and Crouch now, surprised they're so cheap

A midfield of GAJ, Sloane, Jelwood, Rocky, Libba, Crouch is looking the goods at the moment

its my midfield too. JOm the only guy you can leave out as im a little more worried about his injury.

Mine also lol

This annoys me tbh. You almost have to pick Libba and Crouch and IF Omeara is fit you have to pick him too. Rocky is a lock and probably Ablett as well. That's pretty much 5 mids that everyone will have now.
Not really. When a heap of rookies closer to 100k become more apparent closer to RD1 people will struggle to fit everyone in and we'll have some go Guns N Rooks, and others with mid pricers.

Not at those prices.

That's it, unless they were offering blokes like mills and parish for 120k, the guns and rooks is not gonna cut it with the value on offer elsewhere...
Gresham, Mathieson, Freeman, Keays all under 120k from that article. Draftees like Mitch Hibberd, Ryan Clarke, Harley Balic may see action next year and under 150k too. Then throw in 1 or 2 rookies that may pop up (Marcon, O'Kearney maybe) and at basement pricing.

I'll be locking in Crouch and Libba at those prices (and watching JOM's preseason) but rookies always pop up, no matter how unlikely it seems leading up to round 1, so people will consider them and may not start all of those obvious (to us) midpricers.

I agree in parts with both of you.

I reckon everyone pretty much everyone will have Ablett Sloane Rocky Libba Crouch (maybe not Sloane) but there are still 5 other spots to lock in.

I think it will be tough to not have at least 5 non rookies. Im probably looking at 6.

The_Captain

Yeah of those you mentioned, Freeman probably molst chance of game 1 start. I have him in. Then will base the side on who is getting the starting gig come round 1. May have to spend more on rooks up forward and down back to get players that play. Midfield has never been the worry to get rooks who play but...

Why is Ablett so expensive. Should be priced at his average..... at worst... Let alone the discount they havent given him...

I pay 700k+ for him every year so this is cheap.

It means he isnt a no brainer pick, however considering his name is G.Ablett it basically is no matter the price.

my round 1 captain.

Article mentions DSwallow, but nothing on DEF status :(

Article was about mids so safe to assume he is mid only
Yep that's what i was thinking also. I would still nearly consider him at just over 400k as a mid only

Is that what he is priced at? was hoping he would be 300-350 ...

Dumbflowers putting Libba that cheap

Yeah i thought they would do a Ablett with Libba and wasn't considering him, at 350k is a bloody lock & now in the top few most selected players.

The_Captain

I dont think Libba is in the best 22 at the dogs now. So wont be selecting him.  ::). Spread the word and get less people on board lol.

Is anyone considering Watson??? 500k is really tempting me ...

Wow

Looks like season 2016 is going to be insanely cookie cutter

I never start mid pricers, but how on earth can you not start Libba and Crouch at those prices? I don't have a choice lol they have to be picked

JOM and Swallow are hard to ignore too

Ablett, Rocky, Sloane, Libba, Crouch, JOM, Swallow, Myers. What a ridiculous starting 8 for round 1

In previous years I have gone 5 super prem mids (All 550k+) then a 150-180k rookie followed by 5 cheapos. Libba and Crouch save me 450k, of which I can then use to bring in JOM, Swallow and Myers so it's the same outlay (Well actually even less because Ablett is the only 600k+ player and in previous years I've started 3)

Delicious, but cookie cutter

kilbluff1985

Crouch is a huge injury risk i might not pick him

GCSkiwi

Not even another year and we're back at it. Hey fellas :)

In my mind, less so. Haven't heard or done much digging on how JOMs recovery is tracking but he's far from a lock for me. And Swallow is a no brainer if he gets DPP as a defender but if he really is mid only then he's much less appealing too (even at that price). I should add that I'm strongly considering Prestia as a POD so it would be rather insane to have GAJ, Prestia, JOM and Swallow all in the same mid line up.

Something I'm considering that's burned me a little in past years is money making potential, which is impossible to judge at this point. But last year I thought I'd be clever and load up on some fallen prems and mid-pricers to try and get out out of the blocks quicker, and it kinda worked but the reality is that someone who starts at 300k is not going to make big bucks unless they start scoring at keeper level (in which case you aren't going to trade them). Bit like Brayshaw, Newton, Cripps last year, M.Thomas the year prior... While Crouch and Libba could well do that, I can't see Swallow scoring as a keeper mid and at a starting price of 416k he's not going to make money to be worth it.

In all honesty I don't think this year will be horrendously more cookie-cutter than previous years, the reality is that there are always about 5-6 core players which all the serious coaches will pick. This year I think there's a lot of those obvious picks in the mids, but less up front and down back... With question marks over Buddy, DustMart, Bennell, and the loss of DPP to Gray, who are the no-brainer forwards this year? Lids is the only one for me... Similar down back, I don't think there is anyone who is going to be in absolutely every team (like Heater last year). I expect one of Bartel or McVeigh will be, but there's plenty of reasons not to pick them too. Rucks could be a game changer too, Smartin and Goldy will set you back a lot of dosh, is Leuey worth the risk at a new club, can NicNat regain top form? WWSandiD? Just bring back Cox pls :P
