Well look at Essendon's draw.. Melb, Port, Cats, Pies, Blues, Swans, North first 8 weeks after Saturday.

There's a case for him to play against Port and then Cats due to their height. Could then hold his spot for a few weeks. Would have to play against Swans and North youd think regardless of form. Could potentially come in next week for anyone who underperforms. It's a risk though, wasn't even named emergency so dunno how close or far away he really is. I wouldn't do it.

I'd add a prem defender which would push Weits to D4 and then play Dea and Brown/Tippa. Adams D8. Just my advice

Aaron Mullett a late in for North Melbourne tomorrow. He is a sub 200k defensive rookie if anyone interested in maybe selecting him.

Comes in for Kayne Turner

Wasn't Kayne Turner originally picked as an emergency?  Does that mean Mullett is replacing him as the emergency, or in the side proper?

Apparently Petracca played in their match simulation today

Does that mean he is not as far as expected?

I think a few people posted that this was the plan for him this weekend. He was never going to be far away. A few comments from the match anyway, bear in mind these are melbourne supporters commenting so take it with a grain of salt

"Petracca just had a casual shot at goal from 60 and slotted it."

"The plays going up and down the ground and Petracca's doing a lot of running. Just got the ball and hand passed well to advantage."

"Petracca just marked and set up a goal with a long pass."

"Truck getting lots of it now."

"Petracca's pace is incredible like Dangerfield.. And drills them!! Has taken some nice marks.. He did run about 25 metres without bouncing it though.."

"Petracca weaves through traffic and sends it inside 50, he's had plenty of the footy in his first 5 minute stint on the ground."

"Petracca goes for a run at half forward and hits up Weideman on the lead close to goal. He slots the set shot."

"Petracca shrugs a tackle and snags one."

Sounds like the game went for about an hour, Petracca seems very comfortable and is over his injuries. Some more post-match comments:

"There was a passage of play where Petracca had 3 or 4 touches within 30 secs as the ball was moved from d50 to f50. His intercept marking was also a standout."

"Petracca is going to be a superstar. Much quicker than I expected, an excellent accurate kick, reliable overhead mark, and a mongrel in close."

Obvious question marks over the quality of his opposition, but he should play VFL next week and then i'd probably be tipping an AFL debut in round 3. Judging by how they've managed Brayshaw though (who only managed 5 seconds of gametime in the NAB), could be slightly longer.

Replacing him as emergency

Yup, if he was in the starting team I would 100% be picking him over Dea. He is a solid scorer when he plays and has a ton of ability, just too many similar types fighting for spots in the North team at the moment.

Lumumba, Tregove and Brayshaw all played in that game as well. Looking at the Dees 22, lets assume all 4 of these guys come in, so who makes way?

Harmes is one obvious name that you think might drop out but he deserves a spot based on pre-season form. Matt Jones is the other name I see going back to VFL level right away. If McDonald goes out it will be at the expense of Dunn. So that leaves 2 to go. Jetta? Probably not since he can be valuable in shutting down small forwards. One of Frost or Pedo for team balance is a possibility. It probably comes down to Kennedy vs Kent so they both want to be performing from the get go.

Yes agreed. I think Ben Kennedy could easily be dropped if he doesn't perform so at his inflated rookie price, he really may not be worth it.

Big Mac

Yep Kennedy likely to be the one who makes way, Kent ahead of him at this stage just because he works much harder when he doesn't have the ball compared to BK. Harmes also needs to play well if he wants to keep his spot, although a game similar to the one he played in r23 against GWS last year will go a fair way towards that

Trengove likely to play VFL for several more rounds though I would have thought

Dunkley and McGovern love ?
If Dunkley makes best 22 he takes Greshams spot in my side.
McGovern is in my side but I'm not convinced.

If Dunkley makes the cut, are we confident he will keep his spot?

Kid can play, but lots of competition at the kennel.

If he plays I might pick him, but not very confident in him or Hewett, who's my other option

I'm not really confident in any rookies keeping there spot this year accept for Kerridge, Brown, Tippa and Adams.
