Sounds like Mills will be playing down back if he lines up rd1, which by the sounds of things he will

Kieran Jack on Mills

"He reads the game really well and he's not afraid to organise, which are two really strong qualities you need if you want to play back and they're two pretty impressive traits to have for such a young player," Jack said.

"He's played down back, but he's also played a little bit in the midfield too.

"With Rhyce Shaw going out there's a spot there so he could potentially take that."

He might steal some of the points people were hoping would go to Rampe

Gresh will play round 1 and will score well enough to start on field. Lock him in.

Ringo

Hard to tell with Brisbane mid rookies in todays intra club Jansen was probably the best performer of the three Jansen, Matthieson and Keays.
For those that may be interested Hipwood played mainly forward as well.

Been saying that for a while now too

Which is why we got him in WXV ;)

If all rookies played hypothetically, who would be the guys you would be locking in?

For me the only guy that is 100% a lock in Brown. Still not sure on Petrecca and think he may be one of those guys that has niggling injuries throughout hes carrer

Typically i would go with the state league recruits, Sam Menegola nearly stole the Sandover after playing only 13 games, quite possibly the most dominant season I've seen from an ex AFL footballer. Marcus Adams is another to watch out for, this guy is built like the Hulk yet is also lightening quick, can also play forward and back. Mitch Brown should also be a lock for those scouring the Essendon carcass.

The second & third year players come in next, Petracca needs to be considered if he's fit, Paul Ahern will surely see some game time as will Pickett. Freeman looks a long shot at this stage so I've almost ruled a line through his name. Corey Ellis has had a superb preseason and is one to look out for, he's a bit pricey but could well give the Rising Star a shake.

Any gaps can feasibly be filled with the top-ups from Essendon, Hartley looks good from defence and there will be others like Simpkin who may see a lot of game time.

As for first year players, not overly enthused with that many, those willing to spend 200k on Parish are taking a risk in my opinion, he's skinny and he's predominantly outside, these are not the qualities I look for in high priced rookies. Francis looks a beauty but didn't rake in massive numbers at SANFL level, this has made me a little cautious even though I love his potential. Charlie Curnow could be a good pick, his motor is already huge and he should see some time in the middle.

Mitch Hibberd is probably my favourite from this year's batch (was hoping Richmond would draft him to be honest), he is already giving Sam Gibson a run for his money in the aerobic stakes and is an overager. He's also versatile and can play in defence and on the ball. Milera is another one I have earmarked, his SANFL was nothing short of brilliant, the last player to carve it up in such a manner was Jarrod Polec all those years ago, for the record he kicked 5 goals and amassed 27 touches in a final - gun player who looks set to become another Steve Motlop.

Who are the best Mid rookies around that 123k mark or lower? Already got Cunningham plus Hibberd in the backline and Petracca and Kerridge up forward

Gresham is 144K but should start. A few of the Brisbane cheap guys like Keays, Mathieson and Jansen are a chance too. Surely at least one of them lines up rd1

Other than those guys Freeman was a chance but injured again. Hopefully Marcon gets a run although probably won't be rd1
Matho probably the only one that is a chance of lining up round 1 for us, but I doubt it tbh. Midfield is the one area we're strong in :P
Yeh i reckon Matho is the type that could sneak in hey. Rocky and Beams are probably your only genuine inside mids now Reddo is gone. All the rest are outside, or half fwds that rotate in

Matho ran one of the worst beep tests I can remember from a midfielder, with the sub rule gone I just can't see him being close to match ready by round one.
Hey bully what was his beep?

Hey bully what was his beep?

12.4 which is lumbering ruckman slow. Clem Smith ran a 12.9 last year and was howled down for his attitude, Mathieson has a mountain of work to do before he's even considered.

Didn't they give Jansen Jono Browns old number? and do you think he is the best chance of the 3 players u mentioned to get the old Redden role because of his larger body?

Ringo

Jansen did get the 16 Guernsey which was Browns old number. At the moment Bastinac would appear to have the inside running for the redden Role although Mitch Robinson has had a run there in trials as well.

Jansen is still only 20 so has some growing to do but has been a standout from the new recruits in training.  Matthieson has also been training well.  Will be interesting to watch performances in NAB cup.

RaisyDaisy

I can see about 20-30 rookie "names" that i "think" will get games this year, but in terms of who lines up rd1 at the moment i could only say these guys are the only current locks

Brown

Mills and Gresham and probably Polkinghorne

Kerridge and Petracca (if fit)

Heaps of names in defense and mids but not 100% certain yet until NAB

Yeh don't pick Petracca

Terrible pick
