Although our draft won't start until the first week of December anyway.

ossie always seems to explain these things the best, so will continue to steal from him (with some editing):

Just a note on former players getting drafted again...

... Two years ago Cameron Wood was picked by Carlton after a year off from the AFL. The Pacific Islanders were able to bid for him in a father-son like capacity to take him.

The same thing will again happen this year, and it will happen quickly, so be prepared!

Two players are eligible for bidding this year; Mitch Brown (New York) and Sam Menegola (Moscow). Michael Hartley would have been eligible, but he didn't have a home in 2012 OR 2013! Rough! Anyway, New York and Moscow were forced to delist those players at the end of 2014, and they'll have first crack at drafting him back again this year. Other clubs will have a chance to bid for him as well.

New York have picks
12
19
20
38
And Rookie Picks
11
18
29
47
64
65

Moscow have picks:
8
11
14
22
23
34
52
70
88
And Rookie Picks
13
31
49
67

So if London said it wanted to take Menegola at pick 55, any team with a pick higher than 55 could outbid London, but Moscow would only need to use its Pick 70 (next available pick) to select him (or next rookie pick if they didn't have a NAT pick). If Buenos Aires bidded pick 32, Moscow would need to use Pick 34. If Cape Town bidded pick 17 in the rookie draft, Moscow would need to use pick 31 in the rookie to grab him.

.... I hope that makes sense.

Stay tuned, because only a couple of days at most will be available for bidding!

So hypothetically, seeing as we plan on passing 38 we could actually use that on brown and then put him on our rookie list?

Do you mean, if someone bid Pick 35, then you'd be able to use Rookie Pick 11 and not Pick 38 coz you plan to pass it?

Doesn't seem right to me... I'll ask our lord creator and get back to you  :)

Nige

Yeah, I don't think that would work. Considering nat picks go on your senior list and 38 is a nat pick, if you were gonna pass it that would be because you don't have a senior list place and nat picks can't/don't go on the rookie list.

RaisyDaisy

Yeah that's what I thought but wasn't sure. Pretty sure we just have to pass NAT 38 because 12, 18, 19 and PSD 1 will fill our 40

So basically, if we want him we could just use R65 and his ours right?

Memphistopheles

Cape Town bids Rookie 35 for Mitch Brown

And rookie 44 for Menegola.

Is that how it works? :P

(These are real bids btw)

it would be they need to use their next pick in the same round or if that pick is before that pick in the round the next round.

eg.

if you had pick 1 in the 3rd round and someone bid in the 3rd round then you need to use a 4th round pick.

so if i bid on mengola with pick 5 then moscow should need to use their first round pick to get him.

it makes it tough as bidding is supposed to occur before trading picks

I am going to Melbourne tomorrow for a wedding for 5 days and have been bombarded by work. As i work from home I will be working whilst there.

My work have sent a marketing email out to get people to lodge outstanding tax returns from 2006 to 2015 and I am flat out.

They are going to send another one out next tuesday double the size (the day I get back from Melbourne) and work will be even more chaotic. I've worked a minimum 12 hours a day for the last 10 days straight to try to ensure the trip doesn't affect my income but that isn't the issue now.

basically I likely will not be able to contribute if the draft is next week. I will try my best to though.
Just give RD a preference list??

I have to have time to look at the draft and players first, which unfortunately I have not.

Something I can do on the plane trip from the coast to Melbourne tomorrow

Pretty sure if another team bids a better pick, they get him unless you decide to coughing up something better, but you basically get to kick off the bidding and name his price in a way.

I would imagine if someone uses anything higher then PD1 then hes gonna have to go on your senior list if you want him.

I made my list ages ago, didn't matter where people went they had an order before and mostly stayed the same after the draft :P.

Yeh definitely this

RaisyDaisy

Based on what Purps said, we just need to bid our next pick after the other teams bid and his ours

Happy to put him on our list if we need to use NAT 38, or if anyone bids a rookie pick we'll just use our next rookie pick

Basically, he's coming back to us ;)
