Petracca has broken his foot playing Basketball and will miss four - six weeks of training

Massive blow  :'(

MELBOURNE’S Christian Petracca will miss a portion of the pre-season after injuring his toe during the Christmas break.

Christian sustained the injury whilst playing basketball during the Christmas break period. He reported this soreness during screening on the first day back of pre-season training on Monday, with scans confirming a small crack to the fifth toe of his right foot.

Christian will spend the next four weeks off legs and will then progress his rehab to get him back to participating in full training. Christian will still be able to continue the strengthening component of his knee rehabilitation program while recovering from this injury.

Melbourne Coach Paul Roos said “Christian’s rehab up until this point has been going really well, but when you’re an AFL player, you need to understand that everything you do impacts your ability to prepare and contribute to the team and this incident is clearly an interruption.  We have been very clear as a club  about not putting expectations on our first year players, so its important to keep some perspective about this - It’s a harsh lesson for Christian,  but one we are sure he is going to learn from as he develops as an AFL player.”

Sounds like the injury curse has just started for this season.

If he is named R1 he is in. If not he wont be, but Ill have a plan to get him in on bubble in R4 if needed.

and the curse continues with Billie Smeldts sidelined till May.  Not really fantasy relevant but may give Cats rookies a chance early.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Smedts delisted at the end of the year. He is never healthy and way to inconsistent.

Essendon help Matthew Leunberger through Achilles issue.

Not good news but not surprising it is Luey. Really hoping he lines up round 1 as he's a cheap Fwd option who can score well rucking alone.

And still they come with Josh Green to miss 10 weeks with a fractured foot.  Given that it is the same foot that he had problems with last year expect the Lions to be careful with him so may rule him out for the first few games and may open the door for Jansen or McGrath

Possiibly not SC relevant but Just Clarke had a head knock at training today.
