But are people selecting these guys to make money??? Surely Libba is selected in your team to average over 100 and be in the midfield comes years end..... Omeara and crouch capable of doing the same! If not they make 100k and could be an easy sideways to a fallen premo with no injury history...

Perfect cheers MC!

Yeh Libba will be picked expecting him to be a keeper
Crouch and Jaeger can still be used as cash cows

For me id be picking Libba as a Keeper and the other 2 as stepping stones with the hope 1 or both will be able to turn into a M8/M9 spot.

The risk with these blokes is that if they're underperforming, it will be so hard to justify trading them out when your team will have far greater problems in terms of cows that need to be offloaded/acquired or injuries that need to be covered. If Libba is selected as a keeper, are you happy with an average of 90 or 95 after 6/7 rounds? Do you then hold him in that M8 spot, bleeding cash and points as other teams start completing their teams?

As previously mentioned, Crouch and O'Meara particularly have never averaged premium figures, so it's optimistic at best to believe that they'll magically jump into the upper echelon of scorers in their first season back from massive injuries.

wont reveal my strategy too much but im picking all 3 with plans that none of them will be in my finishing squad.

A 95 M8 is fine if you use that trade to bring in the absolute best of the best in another position or to avoid donuts at the end of the year. People try too hard to get a "perfect" team and it hurts then at the back end of the year

I kept Cripps as M8 all year and I finished strongly, the extra trade netted me a lot of points in the last few round. More than having a 105-110 M8 for 8-9 rounds

I wish I had the free trades to upgrade 3 95-100+ performers come years end

30 trades is a lot of trades  :P

Also remember that these guys are making money too, just treat them pretty much the same way you would Cripps last year, or Tyson the year before

No.

Is he injury free and cherry ripe for round 1? No

Will he be a premo mid? No

Will he average 100+, better than he's ever averaged before? No

Will I be happy to have him at M8 all year? No

Will he make more money than a rookie? No

So he won't be a premo, won't be good enough for M8, won't make more money than a rookie would. Can I see any point picking him? No

It's not as clear cut as that for me although your points are basically the reasons he's not currently in my side. I do have Libba and Crouch though. Think they are more likely to become keepers

All fair points and like Quinny he's not in my current side, BUT if he's in round 1 then I think I would take him. No, he isn't going to make the same money as a rookie, but he could potentially average 100, went 90 in his first season and backed it up with 98 when a lot of newbies get second year blues... even if he gets 90 again, he'll make somewhere between 150-200k, which is a comparable amount to a rookie, just wont make it as fast. But, in the meantime, he's scoring you those points every week that a rookie isn't... a 123k rookie who averages 50-60 makes about the same amount of money as Jaeger would averaging 90-95, but over 8 games you're ~250 points ahead...

Now, sure, you can argue that the 180k you save at the start you can spend to make up that points difference, and you could be right. But it's still worth considering.

Agree.

Fair points meow, but the opposite (what kiwi said) is also fair play. Two sides

I just don't know how I would fit him in, my bias will make me pick Crouch over him and I don't know if I want to go M7 deep with midpricers.
