Are we going to talk about selwoods renown slow start to a season

Don't think he's 'renowned' for it, yeh he's done it a couple of times but he's come out firing too

This year he started slow, finished slow, and went slow in the middle too. I'll back him to turn it around next year though

Yeah I think 417 is too low, Personally I would have thought he is going to be in the 450-480k range, and even at that price it's hard to ignore

Back on topic, I don't think Jelwood and Danger will impact each other at all. With Kelly, Stokes and SJ gone Danger has plenty of points available to get without impacting Joel, and considering Danger is Danger with the likes of Sloane, Thompson etc scoring well too then I don't see it impacting Joel and Danger who will be the clear 1 and 2 at the Cattery

not talking about a negative impact but a positive one. Its more about will danger help ease the tag on selwood.

in any matter Selwood is a legend and would have lifted regardless. He actually didnt have that poor a season AFl wise though, just not Jelly good.

You would think Danger is going to attract the tag at least some of the time and another preseason into the 2nd tier players at Geelong should see more help again for Jelwood. It was nice the see Jelwood back to his old monster scoring ways in a 4 or so game stretch towards the end of last season as well, all in all you would be a brave man not to start him this year.

P.S  Hope they have managed to deal with his ''thin blood, no clotting'' issue or else a scratch above his eye may well see him bleed to death on the bench!

If Libba is in fact 417K then he is a must, but will he be that cheap? Started at 586K this year - seems like a massive discount
Short answer - nope
Long answer - nooooooope
Assume 30% discount and will be approx 410-15.  So definite possibility and we would all jump over a proven 100+ scorer for 415K.

RD is right though with Bont McCrea even Daniel all floating around and under there is a question over Libba ceiling and average.   Me 415K  he is in.   500k may see him an upgrade possibility.     I wont be taking Crouch due to missing games syndrome.

GEELONG skipper Joel Selwood has spoken about the duress he was playing under towards the end of 2015, the first season the Cats missed the finals in his time at the club.

He told the Geelong Advertiser that his "whole body" was pretty much shot by the end of the year and that he battled through to play the final game of the season, the farewell game for Steve Johnson, Mathew Stokes and James Kelly.

“We ... didn’t really play for points in that last game but it was also important to get out there for the last game for a few mates who are no longer with us," he said.

"I had little niggles throughout the whole season and then they just got gradually bigger and bigger. (But) I was able to finish out the season. That was important."

Selwood is on a modified program as the Cats start their pre-season campaign. The arrival of Patrick Dangerfield at the club should spare Selwood from some of the battering of seasons past.

He said he expects to return to full training in the next week or so, coinciding with the return to the club of coach Chris Scott who has been travelling overseas.

Does make you wonder if opposition teams smell blood and will continue to pummel him if trying to shut down Danger is less effective, didn't realise he was that stuffed come end of season.

you cant hard tag him that much with danger there. Most teams dont have two hard taggers.

his issue was Bartel SJ Chappy Ablett Corey etc.. all didnt need attention.

with Danger and the rising mids he will go much better. Winning more games will help too.

He was actually playing good in the back bit of the season.. It's the crap he was serving up before his body was apparently shot that I'm worried about.
Still think he's almost a lock. Danger will cop the first tag and Scott Selwood will be there to protect them both

There's every chance Scooter could be running around in the magoos

Jelwood at 500kish is a lock. Absolute lock

Haha, didn't bother me one bit tbh - we just don't need him

And that's a big IF. Has already had more ankle surgery since joining Geelong lol

Would be great !  but my guess is that he and Rocky will come in more around the 550 mark but still great value.

I respect Joel Selwood probably more than any other midfielder going around, but opposition teams know that the only way
to beat him is to batter him, and in that respect, Joel is quite happy to take them on with his "give me your best shot" attitude.
Dangerfield's presence this year won't change that.  If you want to beat Geelong you've still got to beat Selwood.  My money is
on Joel and, barring the unforeseen, he's in my starting mids.

Viney on Jelwood, Vince on Dangerfield - Dees should have them both covered pretty well  ;)  :P
