Has copped a lot of shower (nearly all of it unfair) over his career, but 313 wickets at an average of 28 is absolutely elite no matter how you look at it. And who could forget possibly the best summer of fast bowling in modern Australian cricket history..

Certainly a fantastic career, and I think we might struggle without him more than people think..
Starc looks to be doing okay, they are pretty similar bowlers. This SHOULD get Pattinson into the side and he'll keep the in your face I'm going to knock you out before I get you out attitude :P (I may or may not be pulling sour grapes as to how Australian bowlers play their cricket)
Why'd you turn my statement wrong? :(

Johnno has slipped, but he's been the #1 dude pretty much since the Warne/McGrath era ended - his impact has been very underrated. If Starc is our best now, we're in some serious trouble :-\
Unless you were talking about the 8/61 he took at the WACA which was coupled with Steyn, Morkel, Ntini, Kallis at the other end in that series, yes I disagree with you.

Starc is getting better, give him time, he's only 25.
I'm talking about 37 wickets in an urn regaining whitewash where he dominated an entire batting lineup for 5 straight matches.

Understandable you can't really remember that series though ;)

Just as it's understandable that you can't really remember the 05, 09, 10/11, 13, and 15 series'?

Hey hey hey, let's not win the argument straight away Jukes ;)

As I said earlier, Johnson copped a lot of shower over his career, the way he bounced back in that Ashes was incredible.

05 - one of my favourite series ever
09 - sucked
11 - sucked
13 - sucked
15 - beyond sucked

Hows the England National Team going at the moment? Struggling against Pakistan last I checked?

Anyway, its hard to win an Ashes series when the England-South Africa alliance is in full-force!

Nige

Smarsh, Patto and SOK into the 13 man squad for Adelaide.

Yes, Shaun Marsh is the chosen one.

Jay

We've added SMarsh, Patto and O'Keefe to the squad.

Cricket Australia is really giving me the showers at the moment.. Patto is good, but adding Marsh and O'Keefe is just plain stupid. Marsh has already proven he's mediocre at best and should've had his name crossed out for selection purposes immediately after the ashes, plus hes already 32 years old. Also looking forward to seeing O'Keefe bowl 20 overs of nothing but darts if he gets named, that'll bring in the crowds!

We should be picking this side based on who will go on our next tour of England. Marsh isn't good enough, so why not give Bancroft a go, there's no easier way to start your career than in Adelaide vs a pretty terrible Kiwi attack. Or, why not Klinger to see if he can pull off a Mike Hussey style, late-blooming career. At least give him a chance, I think making over 10,000 first class runs has given him that right.

If you want an extra spinner, that's fine. How about Fawad Ahmed? I know he's old but he's easily the best wrist spinner in the country, why not give him a go. He was great in the Shield last year. There's value to be had in a good wrist spinner rather than just dart throwers. SOK doesn't even have close to the upside that Ahmed does.. No one cares about this showerty test series, why not take a look at Ahmed and if he does well, who knows you might have another excellent spin bowling option next time we go to England!

Nige

Yeah, SOK was named for 'coverage' which suggests to me they have absolutely no intention of playing him.

Fawad's been killing it. Even had a great match against WA in the past few days. I would have liked to have seen him get the nod, but oh well.

Patto in for Johnson and Smarsh in for Uzzie will be the changes.

PowerBug

SOK does nothing that Adam Voges can't do with the ball. If they want to go two spin a Leggie is a better option.

Marsh is a joke and if it wasn't for the name I doubt he'd be named.

Patto is the inclusion that was correct, now got to keep Siddle out of the side.

I think the talk on SOK is extremely harsh. 56 first class matches with 1,677 runs at a batting average of 28.91 with eight 50's and a highest score of 99, including 181 wickets at an average of 24.98 with a best innings figures of 7/35 and match figures of 11/159.

Fairly elite if you ask me. Not bad to bat at 8, score 30 and bowl 30 overs for 70-80 runs and a 3 fa.

it's weird too cos on the little info thing on foxtel on Friday it says "Day 2"

strange  ???

PowerBug

I umpired a game yesterday with a pink ball. In the second innings at around 7pm, the ball became really difficult to pick up from square leg for both me and my partner. Soon after it was alright again it only lasted 4-5 overs. Also had one of the players next to me say he wasn't picking up the ball either. From the bowlers end tracking it was fine no issues there.
