AFL Ultimate Team

What is Ultimate Team?
It's a game mode which is in video games such as Fifa, Madden, NBA etc. Basically you purchase virtual packs with virtual currency, these packs contain cards of players and you use these to make your team. There are a range of different rarity cards such as bronze, silver, gold, elite obviously elite contains the great players and bronze the not so great players. There is also an auction house where you can post your players for auction and other people can bid on them. Vice-versa.

There is NO AFL Ultimate Team available! Not happy!

Basically I'm wondering if you think it would be a good idea to start an AFL type Ultimate Team on FF? I would happily admin it and think it would be a really cool feature as it is something really different to the traditional forms of fantasy which are here on FF.

It'll be especially great because we will have something to do during the offseason and I have a few ideas to make it really fun.

How will it work?
As many people can become apart of this as possible. It is not limited by numbers as players can be doubled, tripled and duplicated over and over. So in theory everyone could be apart of it if they want. You don't need to be super smart in regards to AFL knowledge either.

Basically each user would start with lets say $80,000 and they can use this money to purchase a pack(s) each pack, lets say the basic pack costs $10k and contains 5 cards. The aim obviously is to attain as many good players as possible. How would the card packs work? I won't be apart of the league so prior to releasing the packs, I'll randomise each pack and assign it a number from 1-100 and then users can pick a number and receive the corresponding pack. Hope that makes sense.

Packs are just the same as if you were opening real playing cards cards. So starts off with good fortune. The real skills will be buying/selling players in the Auction House and a few other features which will require some guts.

Once a few teams get started we can create tournaments and virtual games which will offer rewards for playing them such as more money, and super rare cards.

Types of Cards:
Thinking about having 4 tiers: Elite, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Players will be ranked according to their SC average from 2015.
Elite will be say the top 35 players, Gold the next 70, Silver the next 140 and the rest bronze.
Todd Goldstein who was the highest averaging player will have a rating in AFL Ultimate Team of 94 and be an Elite Card.
Nic Naitanui who was the 36th highest averaging player will have a rating of 84 and be a Gold card.
A player like Jake Neade will have a rating of around 60 and be a Bronze.
The will be a few exceptions to the rule, for example Tom Liberatore won't be a Bronze card.

Here is the good bit
As well as the current players how awesome would it be to pull a Wayne Carey? A Billy Brownless? How awesome would it be to pair a Gary Ablett Sr. with his son? Here's my favourite, how about getting Matthew Richardson and putting him on the wing just like in 08? These insane combinations will all be possible in this game mode since the aim is to get the coolest team. Not just the highest scoring, cookie cutter players the same as everyone else.

Your Team
Will be the exact same as an AFL team. 22 players. 6 of each position, 4 bench. 1 Coach. Pretty simple. Don't think there is too much need to explain this.

Team Format
Here is what your team could look like after a bit of hard work:
FB: Luke Hodge, Stephen Silvagni, Kade Simpson
HB: Grant Birchall, Alex Rance, Ted Whitten
C: Matthew Richardson, Gary Ablett Jr., Peter Matera
HF: Mitch Honeychurch, Wayne Carey, Billy Brownless
FF: Alex Jesaulenko, Gary Ablett Sr., James Hird
FOL: Dean Cox, Chris Judd, Nathan Buckley
IC: Patrick Cripps, Nathan Fyfe, Callum Mills, Ben Cousins
HC: Mick Malthouse

Looks great mate, awesome idea!

Very keen, yes please

So scoring starts as of next year, but over the offseason we can trade and make our teams as good as possible? Sounds sick

There is no direct "scoring" as such. It's NOT like Travis Boak scores 120SC so he gets 120 Ultimate Team Points.

There will be mini-games and challenges that will be run but it's more just a fun thing that doesn't require too much commitment and something to do during the offseason.  :)
