Closer to home??? One thing you need to remember about Perth is it's far, far away :)

Adelaide->Brisbane 1500km 2047km

Adelaide->Perth 2100km 2691km

Sorry couldn't help it. Have driven both, a few times to Perth. Wish they were closer but your point stands.
OK stand corrected - driving the Nullarbor is on my bucket list only ever flown to Perth so that is why I thought Adelaide is closer to Perth than Brisbane -  Will check facts next time  :( :(

What catches people out, including myself, is how close Adelaide is to SA's eastern border compared to the western border.

And my figures, Grazz, are as the crow flies (give or take 50km)

Anyway I'm getting side tracked, I agree with Ringo's initial comment, chasing short term success seems to be the only obvious reason why he picked West Coast

Yep no worries, i seriously doubt they would be driving home rather than flying. :P

Haha take a good book with you mate because the Nullarbor is a very humdrum drive, Nullarbor means no tree's, so true and at one point you have almost a 150k's of nothing but straight road. If you get off the main drag theres a bit to see of some interest. The Limestone Cliffs, the old telegraph station etc but not alot.

Back on topic, Think you're right it's more about chasing some success in his career and West Coast can certainly provide that considering where they are at right now and should remain for a few seasons.
