"I want to come in and fight for the spot. At the moment I've been doing a bit of work against Tommy Bellchambers, who's fit and healthy," Leuenberger said from the Bombers' training session in Healesville on Wednesday.

"I like to have the mentality that him and I are going to battle it out and see what happens from there."

Leuenberger, who was selected with pick No.4 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, said the Bombers presented more opportunities for him than staying at the Lions, where Martin recently re-signed for a further three years.

"It was just game opportunity. I couldn't get past Stef up at Brisbane and I was playing as a key forward, and unfortunately I don't really know how to play that position," Leuenberger said.

"I came down here envisaging playing more time in the ruck.

"After having discussions with Brissy about where I wanted to be and how they saw the team going forward [I thought] it might be best to see what else might be out there and Essendon were pretty interested from what I understood.

"I felt it was going to be a good fit and they did too, so here I am."

Sounds like there's only 1 ruck spot up for grabs at Essendon which is good news for those of us considering berger

Woosha: "Bellchambers has more impact up forward, so I think Leuey will spend more time in the ruck."

agreed, also with potential to end up d6 in last half of the year

Speculator

Woosha's comments have put this bloke in contention for my team. Will watch closely in preseason.

Little stat that was brought up last year...

Leuenberger

2011 Average: 102.2
Average under new ruck system: 90.6

2013 Average: 97
Average under new ruck system: 89.7

Does justify a $310,800 price ($175,700 under priced on those averages), just depends if that's an average you're comfortable with?

If that's what I can get from my initial F4/R3 and final F7/R3 I will be stoked

Like I said in the other thread, considering Woosha has publicly stated that Luey is their main ruck, and that Luey only agreed to sign on after speaking with Woosha who assured him that, I think the fact that he provides cover and is only 310k makes him a near lock for my forward line

It's Belly all over again, but a much better prospect
