i don't think his role will change to much from what they were already planning but yeh its definitely another option.  I'd be keeping an eye on Weller though ;)

Ricochet

I still think Barlow is a good pick Grazz but what i meant was...

IF Fyfes back injury meant he was to be nursed back by playing fwd then i dont think it will be a case of one player (like a Barlow) stepping straight back into an inside role. I reckon it will be more a case of boys like Barlow, Bennell, a kid like Weller, etc sharing the load.

Earlier on Barlow i heard that his starting point will stay the same but he will move into the stoppage/congestion from that point, rather than starting inside. That was before the Fyfe injury so could change a bit

Freo saying that the 2 month outing is incorrect and he will be back running next week when they return to training

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-12-28/fyfe-suffers-back-injury-at-dockers-training

FREMANTLE expects Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe to resume running when the club returns to training on January 4 despite injuring his back at training.

However, respected sports medico Dr Peter Larkins says the bulging disc could flare up during the season with an awkward tackle or over-stretching in a marking contest.

Fyfe injured his back during the Dockers' final pre-Christmas session on December 21.

Seven News in Perth reported the superstar would miss up to two months with the injury, but Fremantle told AFL.com.au on Monday that was incorrect.

Scans on his back revealed no need for surgery but there's no guarantee Fyfe will be fit to take part in the club's first 2016 NAB Challenge game against Richmond

Freo's stance sounds a bit like "wishful" thinking to me RD.  Others may refer to it as "damage control".  I hope he makes it back for round 1, but I'll be treading very warily, what concerns me most is doc Larkins's assessment that bringing him in too early could be tantamount to playing Russian roulette.  Also worth considering is the fact that even if he does get games he will no doubt be on guard duty and playing in a way to protect further damage, which is never a good thing and always leads to sub par performances. But maybe I'm thinking too far ahead; who knows, this all could be little more than media hype and a gross exaggeration of the facts, not uncommon these days.

For me the question of his reliability over the year has to be a major consideration.   Do you want to take a money drop and points drop and possible trade for cover.     As Dr Larkins said big chance of reinjury during the year.

For all those willing to take him,  review last years carnage!!!!

dmac07

It's the sort of innjury he could easily get to be 100% with, and play without compromise. But it could be set off again at any moment with any sort of innocuous movement. I would except him to play without issue, but it's the sort of thing that could easily flare up and have him miss 1-2 weeks a couple of times throughout the season.

Grufflez

The bookies seem to think it will be  a problem with Ablett now leading the Brownlow betting, follow the money trail.....

ronl

Too true, Grufflez, bookies somehow seem to be able to source information that most of us have no access to. 8) I wonder how that is ;)

Holz

wasnt going to start him for this reason, not when you have Pendles cheaper and i reckon almost if not just as good and i still cant fit him in.

dont think going Ablett Rocky Sloane instead will be an issue especially given i have goldy as a captain option instead. If he comes out and kills it i have stepping stones in Libba and Crouch if need be.

Pendles 129 125 127 124 116 missed 1 game in 3 years.
Fyfe 107 122 124 missed 11 games in 3 years.

guys injury, suspension prone. I cant afford to pay that much for him.
