Add to that the fact pav is almost 35 and it gonna be showere next year! he was so slow last year! I wouldnt even both putting best defender on pav.. Id send them to tabeneer and keep him goal less. They will then need fyfe, walters, balla, benell to be kicking 10 between them a game to win... And mayne.... well not even sure what he is.,.,

Of course you wouldn't do that if he played for Hawthorn or Sydney or West Coast who have a plethora of KPF's, but the thing is, Freo have nobody apart from Pav that is any good at all

Plus, Freo's midfield is already good enough without needing him in there, just my thoughts

Seems a waste, and will result in Freo just not being good enough, you can cry all you want for your smaller forwards (Ballas, Walters, Bennell etc to kick more goals but they won't be able to do everything, and yes it seems stupid for me to talk all about a KPF but every good team has multiple of them

Hawks - Roughy, Gunston
West Coast - Kennedy, Darling
Sydney - Franklin, Tippett
Adelaide - Tippett, Jenkins, Lynch
NM - Petrie, Waite
Rich - JRoo, Vickery (yes he's pretty good now)

And all of those teams are good

Brisbane - nobody
Carlton - nobody
Essendon - Daniher
Coll - Cloke
Melb - Hogan
GC - Lynch
Giants - Cameron
St Kilda - NRoo

Are all teams who weren't close to making the eight

And then the teams who were able to do well because they had good midfielders and team defence

Well of course, it's no secret we don't have any key forwards. We've been throwing millions at decent ones for years

But that doesn't mean Fyfe MUST play as a KPF

Lol you make it sound like Freo are in all sorts of trouble... We finished on top of the bloody ladder this year

Obviously we must add goals but flower me they're not going to throw the team on its head

Freo in NAB will be an interesting watch as i am sure they will play around with a lot of ideas, Fyfes overhead marking and contested body work do make him a better target than Bennell & company, my guestimate is a 60/40 split mid/fwd, Pav really didn't look great last year and i have a feeling had someone like MacCathy signed he wouldn't have played on this season despite what they say.
Think their premiership tilt is over.

Taberner will just keep on getting better.

Pav is old but he did kick 40 goals

maybe Apeness would get a goal.

But it's still the same old outdated from St Kilda era game plan, a few good small forwards won't get them over the line, Tabs has played 28 games lol Apeness 2 games, maybe they should have got more game time in to their 2nd tier players over the last 2 or 3 years, I burst out laughing when i heard Lyon say they needed 2 more goals a game last year, think about that statement.   Lyon needs to adapt and evolve...if he can

lol I laugh when people have no idea about the Fremantle list and throw up the old Ross doesn't play kids statement. Its a load of shower

Neale, Sheridan, Sutcliffe, APearce....

All played upwards of half a year in only their 2nd year and are regulars

Freo are a top 4 side, you don't just hand out games to kids for the sake of it


It's a myth that Ross doesn't give kids a go now. If they're ready to go, they get a chance

I don't know if you're upset or frustrated but it must be obvious to you that you will not win a premiership with the team as it is? It's all good and rosy to finish top but no flag means you aren't good enough. The only reason you finished top is because you were able to win a lot of home games through strangling sides, and that doesn't hold up in finals when you get a team that is extremely offensive like Hawks (got smashed by Hawks in Launceston too, so you're team was overrated imo), and you should've lost to Sydney in the qualifying final and they're very offensive also

And putting Fyfe up forward for longer (playing more forward than mid) is in now way throwing the team on its head? I don't know where that statement has come from lol

Rico,  love your loyalty mate.      We are on your side we want to see Freo improve.   We are putting forward the argument that Freo will be a better and higher scoring side with Fyfe at KPF without reducing your midfield capability much if any at all.

1. Fyfe wins a second Brownlow as the leagues dominate midfielder - Rico Wins

2. Fyfe wins a Coleman as the leagues dominate KPF - Wato and the rest win

3. Fyfe breaks the AFL by winning the Brownlow, Coleman and Normsmith and then hoist the Cup as captain after Pav retires mid year - At this point Rico wouldn't give two showers about some thread from December  :P

I'm sorry, but Fyfe ain't playing forward. You're robbing Peter to pay Paul by doing that. It's going to work the same as Gaz, every year they say to play him forward because he can hit the scoreboard and cause mismatches up forward, but when you can hunt the footy and impact the game around the ball the way he and Fyfe do you can't sit then them up forward for 40% of the game. Plus Fyfe's set shot goal kicking is fairly poor,he has a habit of butchering them so it will probably end up limiting his impact on games. The way he can add to his game is by resting down there instead of the bench, so that's maybe 10% on the bench and 10% up forward instead of a 15% and 5% split.

Harley will come in and create a lot of mismatches, he can play that half forward role perfectly and will rotate through there and probably the wing/square. As long as the big guys can bring it to ground Freo will be able to kick a score to win them most games through the regular season considering how good they are at suffocating teams. While it might not stand up in finals, it will see them finish top 8 again at the very least

Mat,  valid points.  If you keep doing what your doing you will get the same outcome.  If Freo want a different outcome and not top of Ladder and make 8, but to win the flag then they need to consider how to achieve it.  Same ol, same ol won't cut it.
