Group 1 seems really close

Group 2 that match to see who gets through is going to be interesting

Predictions thread might create some discussion but idk.

RIP Queensland, all the players not having the best time. I think that next year this will all be very different when there aren't so many players with CA contracts playing.

PowerBug

Group 1:
NT vs ACT
571 to 174
Players remaining:
ACT - Fekete (C), Paine, Gulbis
NT - Michael (C)
I think NT has this sealed, which makes the result of the next match very interesting.

TAS vs NSW
402 to 408
Players remaining:
TAS - Cooper, Bird (C), Richardson
NSW - Ferguson, Raphael, Zampa
This is an epic right here! As of right now, NSW needs to make up 22% on ACT to overtake them, and in doing so they will overtake TAS and jump into 2nd. I calculate that as a big margin that they need to haul in (around 400 points they need to gain on TAS from here). Tasmania, just need to win the match, and assuming there's no miracle comeback by the Cockatoos, then the Tassie Devils make the semis with a 2-1 record.

A close result in favour of NSW will mean ACT get through. A result of roughly 100 points+ in favour of NSW will put them above TAS and into 3rd. And as there is no minor finals (as in 3rd in 1 vs 4th in 2), and simply in Round 5 the 3rd placed teams fight for 5th overall (4th placed teams fight for 7th) and thus extra PM, finishing 3rd is preferred to 4th.

Group 2:
WA vs SA
586 to 450
Players remaining:
WA - Dunk (C)
SA - Bailey
An upset on the cards here? It's possible. Dunk fails and Bailey tons the Wombats win this. The result of this match won't alter the Swans position on the table, they are first and will qualify first from Group 2. SA can avoid last if they win, but they can't reach 2nd under any circumstance.

QLD vs VIC
207 to 321
Players remaining:
QLD - Head (C), Faulkner
VIC - Mennie (C)
This is the game of the round, and it's gonna be a tight one! The Possums hold a slight lead, but with Head and Faulkner to come for the Koalas, it's far from over. Joe Mennie will need to stand up for the Possums, has been very poor but as the only DGR player he got given the captaincy. The winner of this match will finish 2nd to the Swans, the loser will likely drop to 4th if the Wombats win.

Travis Head has 0-23 off 4 overs, which translates to a 15 Econ bonus. Q Koalas would surely take that from their skipper! Joe Mennie currently has 5 overs 0-16 which is 25 then doubled for the V Possums. They would want a wicket or two from him though.

Ben Dunk is just assuring WA Swans of the win, not allowing SA Wombats player George Bailey a shot.

ACT are doing okay, Paine is scoring. Fekete and Gulbis will need to perform with the ball though. Dom Michael not being given a chance to bat might hurt NT here!

Jackson Bird IS NOT PLAYING, for T Devils!! Cooper and Richardson have huge jobs now. Zampa has not done much yet for NSW so a possibility is still there for the Devils to take this.

Edit: And as I type, Travis Head takes the wicket of Ben Dunk. Huge for the Koalas! Joe Mennie has to do something now to counter this.

That's who I'm liking to qualify by looking at the numbers of today's match. Bear in mind I have not calculated anything yet.

Alrighty scores are in!

GROUP 1:

NT defeated ACT
585 to 566
This went right down to the wire! ACT needed huge efforts by their players, and they delivered! Tim Paine with a 109* and 3 catches, Evan Gulbis with 4-12 and a runout. It was almost enough to steal the win, but captain Andrew Fekete was poor. If it makes Jay feel better, had he skippered Gulbis over Fekete, ACT would've won however still finished 2nd by 1%. Both these teams have qualified for the semis. The Cockatoos have some selection dilemmas, Alex Ross (155, 7), Xavier Doherty (81, 60), Jon Holland (158), Andrew Tye (73) would all be putting their hands up. Voges (37) and Smith (-10) have been poor the last two rounds and their places must be insecure.

TAS defeated by NSW
478 to 519
This was a lot closer than it probably should've been. NSW had 4 players in today's match (I forgot Jake Doran), and TAS had 2. The NSW players combined for only 111 points, but Kane Richardson and Tom Cooper couldn't haul it in. The Devils might be ruing this one, despite having less players a skipper change to Cutting or Richardson would've sen them in and finish 2nd. As it is they are 3rd, NSW fell short of catching up the % required and are 4th.

GROUP 2:

WA defeated SA
781 to 454
This was never really a contest. WA dominated from the start and the sheer quality in the line-up showed yet again. Dunk, Starc, Maddinson all superb. Job only half done though, there are finals still to play! For SA it's a 4th place finish and a match against NSW in Round 5 to see who takes the spoon.

QLD defeated VIC
471 to 361
This was a close one heading into the final game, but Joe Mennie didn't stand up for the Possums. He combined for 49 points from his two games, not a return that you want. QLD were poor but good enough, Faulkner, Head playing good games to get them over the line and into 2nd. They'll also be encouraged by scores over 117 and 90 from two reserves (Reardon and Paris)

The final standings:

Round 4 fixtures:
NT vs QLD
WA vs ACT

Round 5 fixtures:
Winner Semi 1 vs Winner Semi 2
Loser Semi 1 vs Loser Semi 2
3rd Group 1 vs 3rd Group 2
4th Group 1 vs 4th Group 2

So note that teams 3rd and 4th do not need to name a team next round, but they do in Round 5.

Round 4 starts tomorrow, top 4 get your teams in. There's 4 matches so at least one team has a DGW, not sure if anyone has a bye from memory. Check it yourselves!

Ahhh hang on, read the wrong line. Paris scored 41 and was counted. It was Steketee who scored 90 that wasn't named. :)

Queensland go into this one as real underdogs. They rank 4th in points scored across the 3 rounds, and also 4th among total points scored across their whole squad, so they definitely deserve to be there. They even rank 4th for average points per player. NT will definitely fancy themselves, Bancroft is playing well and has two shots at it, and Behrendorff should be able to take some CXI wickets.

Previous rounds scores:
NT: 604, 646, 585
QLD: 514, 357, 471

QLD have done well so far, but their run ends here. NT to win and comfortably.
