The Dockers hopes of securing GWS forward Cam McCarthy remain alive after his manager Colin Young angrily denied he has agreed to stay with the Giants.

He told the Herald Sun reports McCarthy had backed down on his determination to leave were false.

“Speculation Cam is keen to stay is completely wrong,’’ he told the Herald Sun.

“Cam is as keen to go home today as he was a month ago and he will absolutely be going through the process of a trade with Fremantle.”

McCarthy was born on the day of Fremantle’s first AFL game â€" April 1, 1995 â€" and remains a huge Dockers fan.

So Richmond have pulled out of the race for Bennell with his...

manager Colin Young said he had pulled his player from the medical test given they were still working through contract details.

“I advised Harley not to attend the medical and the club is aware of that,” Young said.

Sounds to me like we made a massive $$$ offer, and Richmond wouldn't compete with it. Which may be fair enough given his off field issues.

But with no competition for him, do we get him a hell of a lot cheaper. Like a 2nd rounder?

FREMANTLE is yet to make an offer to troubled Gold Coast midfielder Harley Bennell as the club ramps up its background checks on the departing Sun.

The Dockers could be the only club with any interest in the 23-year-old after Richmond yesterday pulled out of the race for Bennell, following a series of nights out in Melbourne.

Without strong demand for his services, the Dockers may land Bennell cheaply for a second-round pick, but no deal has yet been forthcoming.

Buuut, 2nd round pick? ;D

You guys might be the only side that fit the criteria for why he wants to leave us (success) and have the tools to get a deal done. He would be an automatic replacement for McPharlin and can swing forward when you guys need a few goals like Hunter did at the Eagles. The fact is he isn't a FA and teams will have to trade for him would put you guys in an advantageous position. If he wants to stay in Vic I think the Dogs are the other side that would be fighting for his services.
