yeah the way I look at it, we went years undersized down back, now we have 2 monsters. so what if one is only 19, throw him in the deep end I say, he had a very good first year (albeit only a few games, not sure how many) and it's not like we'll be contending next year so doesn't matter if he has a few kicked on him every now and then

initially I had Freeman on the wing, but I'll listen to meow when he said he's not really an outside type, he's a Shuey type player who will line up at the centre bounce. it all sorta mashes up anyway. just looks better with his name there  ;D

Freeman will need to earn his spot as an on-baller (for now, I would be backing Dunstan to start in rover).

Don't think Acres is in your best 22 yet either. He was the high-ceiling, long-term development prospect in the draft and I think he needs another year or two (maybe even 3-4 years) until he starts having an impact.

I think the Saints will get Freeman right and he should be contesting with Dunstan in a matter of weeks if fit and healthy

In the long-term, do you guys see McCartin at FF and Bruce in the FP, McCartin at HF and Bruce at FF, or Bruce at HF and McCartin at FF? (Thus far I thought Bruce would be set as Nroo's long-term replacement (at CHF) - or does he need to replicate that form next season?)

I might add that Bill is right. Freeman is a Luke Shuey, bursting pack breaker type. However, due to his speed he could play as an outside mid in his first year or so, but in the long-term, you have a potentially better version of Luke Shuey

Bill Manspeaker

long term I have Bruce at CHF playing the Rooey type roll (big shoes to fill) and Paddy playing FF

personally I think our forward line is set

Billings, Bruce, Sinclair
Lonie, McCartin, Membrey

with Billings and Sinclair having stints on the ball. Sinclair has Sam Mitchell-like footwork/movement, and Billings is Billings, so they'll rotate through the midfield and forward flanks

Well, now we will have to wait until 2017 to see Carlisle kill it in the backline.. Banned for 12 months.

David King on the Carlisle trade:

"It'll be Darcy Parish. We'll all sit back and watch how good Parish is as an AFL player and say 'this is what we paid for him'"

uhh no Kingy.. Parish went at 4 (well 5 but that's with Mills at 3), so we wouldn't have been able to pick him up anyway.

Kingy is the worst ever. Worst 'analyst' we have in the game at the moment. Continuously gets his facts wrong, and he's predictions are flowering god awful. He's either got something against St Kilda, or he is just that stupid. Like last year when he called Josh Bruce, Cameron... and when he said the Saints wouldn't win a game. but;

Prediction 1st round; (I don't think Billings will be 100% yet, so i've left him out. Same with Freeman.)

FB: Hugh Goddard, Sean Dempster, Jarryn Geary
HB: Dylan Roberton, Sam Fisher, Shane Savage
C: Nick Riewoldt, Seb Ross, Jack Newnes
HF: Mav Weller, Patrick McCartin, Jack Sinclair
FF: Jack Lonie, Josh Bruce, Tom Hickey
Fol: Billy Longer, Jack Steven, David Armitage
Int: Sam Gilbert, Jimmy Webster, Leigh Montagna, Luke Dunstan
Emg: Blake Acres, Nathan Wright, Darren Minchington

I like Rooey on the wing PK.
1. he runs up and down the ground anyway even when he's playing forward
2. can spend most of his time as an option for our transition out of the backline, and;
3. leaves room for Bruce and Paddy start working together as HF and FF

to be fair essendon had pick 5 and 6..

If they had just 1 they could have picked francis over parish and then parish would have slipped to you.

Bill Manspeaker

Essendon were always hot for Parish from what I read

King is saying Carlisle catergorically cost us Parish. he's a moron

Kyle is right.

Without a doubt, Essendon we're going to pick Parish/Oliver no matter what.

I thought pick 14 was part of the trade as well?

So technically you gained a potential AA full back and an U18 AA mid who was the second highest accumulator of possession in the NAT Championships and the TAC Cup (i.e. Jade Gresham)

I would take Carlisle (with the ban) and Gresham over a >1% chance at Darcy Parish (more likely Aaron Francis) any day of the week.

I still have doubts about Parish tbh, there is a lot of criticisms that he would not have been a top 10 pick in a heavier draft (from what I've seen he seems like a fantastic player - however, only time will tell whether he will perform at the top level  (this could be said about any draftee any their draft year though)

Still, back to the point, Kingy's comment was incorrect in more ways than one (poor knowledge of the draft order and completely disregarded Gresham - esp. with pick 14 being the only thing to ultimately secure the trade)

Bill Manspeaker

yep spot on PSK, something that always seems to go unmentioned. and being fair, our 2nd (25ish) was also involved, but from all reports we rated Brandon White there and would have taken him. we got him with pick 40, so we didn't lose anything

Pkbaldy

Well technically we lost Pick 5 (Darcy Parish/Aaron Francis) and Pick 24 for Jake Carlisle and Jade Gresham.

I'm fine with this. 1 year off for Carlisle isn't the worst thing in the world, he can get his head around it all, St Kilda have sent him to work in construction for a while, so he can learn, it'll be good for him. And even though I wasn't a fan of getting a small midfielder in Gresham, you can't complain about his Championship stats. So i'm totally fine with this trade. Good luck the Darcy, hope he has a successful career. But I think we'll be fine with Jake and Jade.
