Apparently Redden is considering leaving at the end of next season as well...

I think Leppa has taken the right approach. Previous recruiters may have not asked about players intentions in the long-term and from what we have seen so far, Leppa has only pursued players who WANT to reside in Brisbane (Dixon will be the next example of a smart recruitment if they lock him) in both the trade period & the draft.

Regarding the draft, he is focusing on players who will stay (Carlton better not steal Schache from them because he would stay in Brisbane for the long-haul - not sure about Weitering - and Carlton is a low-integrity club so it would not be beyond their character to do so even if Schache informed them otherwise). Furthermore, he's focused more on the academy and they are starting to develop some talented youths (this draft includes Ben Keays & Eric Hipwood).

Unfortunately, showerheads like McGuire complained when the Swans got Heeney and it has made the entire process harder (despite the fact they got both De Goey & Darcy Moore)... Hopefully the Lions can got either Schache or Weitering and lock down Keays & Hipwood in the process (might be best if they trade Redden for two first round picks in a 3-way trade - or a first & second round pick)

Hoping Bell goes up to Brissie, they deserve some FA love.

(I know they got Robinson but that doesn't even go close to making up for what they've lost... Not even including this shower about Redden!)

Never knew he was on the free agency market. Will Carlton trade him? Apparently all you have to do is ask them for the trade and the they completely excommunicate you  :P Perfect for any player that wants to be disrespectfully treated with spite by their club (how they treated Henderson was disgusting, I'll be surprised if any player wants to go there now...)

Also think more players will want out of Carlton as well

Well said and agree - Redden made a statement that he needs to consider his future and hence the speculation and rumours about him leaving. The club just needs to sit with him and decide what he wants so we can get some leverage this year rather than next year when he becomes FA. if he wishes to leave.
With Berger and Aish almost certain to leave hopefully can get first round or end of first round picks which will enable us to tie up Keays and Hipwood. And if we can get another first rounder for Redden as well we will be set.
If ever we needed proof that the Acadamies are producing results for the Lions Liam Dawson, Johnno Freeman and Harris Andrews all have played Senior Football and Matthew Hammelman is not far away.

Explain how exactly we would steal Schache? If he is the number 1 talent in the draft he will go to the team with the number 1 pick regardless. You can't 'steal' a player.

What about last offseason? So apart from all the draft picks they received for the go home crew, what about Beams and Christensen. Beams could arguably be listed as a top 15 player in the comp and he said Brisbane or nowhere. Docherty, Polec, Yeo and Karnezis are nowhere near the level that Beams is and I would rather Christensen over a few of those as well. Yeah it sucks to lose kids, but it isn't like they just picked up a couple of guns recently along with a hoard of top 20 picks in return.

Apart from the fact Henderson made the situation untenable with AFL players in NRoo and Nicky Dal saying they didn't really have a choice but nice try again.

We'll see, but I feel like most of these rumours are based on nothing

Capper

I dont think Sydney will chase Berger as we still have a trade ban. Also heard that MArtin might be going back to Melbourne based club so Berger could stay

Have read today that Berger has been told he will not be offered a new contract.
Don't know how true this is tho

I'd rather Docherty, Polec and Yeo over Christensen. Just saying.

Yeah I rate all 3 of them more highly, one thing Christensen offers is premiership experience though, however Brisbane supporters expected the team to be better off then it is now on the ladder.

Also, and the big tick in Brisbane's perspective would be Christensen wants to live in Brisbane. Thus, they know he's there for the long-haul (along with Beams & Robinson). I think after the homesick 4 and one spud (Karnezis) left player retention was their priority (I think they didn't screen Aish enough and maybe were overwhelmed by his highly decorated junior career because he has been a wasted no. 7 draft pick - a shame too, because they literally nailed every other pick in that draft).

You're severely underrating Christensen. They are all 4 very different players with different skill sets. The only thing that really stopped Christensen from becoming an A-grader at the Cats were the injuries. The other 3 guys are nowhere near him in terms of top line level of production yet.

Kurt Tippett anyone?
ssh that was being kept quiet as a possible trade work going behind the scene to see if it can meet Sydneys trade restrictions. Remember was mooted to us initially from Crows anyway.

Holy shower, looked into Hipwood and think he will be a better pick-up than Schache imo.

202cm and incredibly athletic. He could be a super forward or defender and could even have stints in the ruck. It's rare for players to be like that (he looks to be a taller Alex Rance once matured). Phantom Draft has him ranked at 12-14 (which benefits the Lions because other clubs will not bid his worth), I think there's a solid chance he will be the best in the draft in hindsight.
